Michele Polak started her career as a graphic designer, moving into the academy after fifteen years as an art director in corporate graphics.  After teaching in adjunct and Visiting Professor positions, Michele settled in as a Centenary faculty member in fall 2012 as Director of the Composition Program.  She teaches courses in composition, digital rhetorics and gender studies.

Michele’s two fields of Composition and Rhetoric and Feminist Discourses, places her at the intersection of interdisciplinary studies involving digital rhetorics and gender studies.  One of the earliest Girls Studies scholars, Michele has published on the subject of girls and online discourses in several girl studies’ anthologies, including contributions to the field encyclopedia.  Her research in youth culture and digital pedagogies investigates how social media has influenced the writing process in the college composition classroom.
