Kerry Barnett joined the Centenary faculty in 1997, after ten years of teaching and administration of international educational exchange programs in Fukuoka, Japan, New York, and London.  Her undergraduate degree in the Great Books Program at Notre Dame led to further interdisciplinary studies at the graduate level and interests in classical and multicultural literature. She teaches composition and rhetoric, ethnic and multicultural literature, classical literature, children’s literature, and humanities, and coordinates the Centenary College chapter of the International English Honors Society. Kerry is also a founder and trustee of Ridge and Valley Charter School, an innovative K-8 public school with a mission of ecological literacy and sustainability.


Kerry’s research interests include children’s and adolescent literature, alternative educational models, non-hierarchical governance, and policy and administration in public education. She is particularly committed to Writing and Thinking and Writing to Learn practices in her teaching and research.
