PRAXIS 1
Students seeking admission to the Education Department must have taken and successfully passed the three PRAXIS I exams --- Mathematics, Reading and Writing --- at the time an application is submitted to the Education Department.
The Praxis Series (Professional Assessments for Beginning Teachers)
Prior to Student Teaching, candidates must have passed the appropriate PRAXIS Examination(s). Elementary certification candidates in New Jersey take the PRAXIS II exam Elementary Ed., multiple subjects (5031). Subject certification candidatesare required to complete the appropriate PRAXIS II Subject Assessment/Specialty Area Test. Specific information on dates and locations of testing are available in the Education Office. It is the student’s responsibility to complete and submit registration forms. Study guides for the Praxis Series are available through the bookstore.
Practicum and Student Teaching: Middle School Endorsements
All elementary education certification candidates seeking Elementary Education certification and a Middle School endorsement are required to pass all appropriate PRAXIS II exams before submission of the application for student teaching. Students seeking a Middle School endorsement will complete the Practicum experience in a Grade 1-5 setting and will complete the Student Teaching experience in an appropriate grade 5-8 setting.
Student Teaching: Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement
Currently there is no Praxis requirement for the K-12 endorsement. However, students seeking this endorsement are required to complete one-half of their student teaching experience in a special education environment.
