Professor Sandy Genduso
Department Chair &
Associate Professor of Education

Professor Sandra Genduso has a Bachelor of Arts in Education/English and a Master of Arts in Education. Her educational background consists of teaching at a high school, working with reluctant learners and athletes, teaching at a community college, serving on a school board, directing an academic skills center, and supervising Language Arts in a K-12 school district.
She holds the following education certifications: Principal, Supervisor, N-12 English, and K-5 Elementary. Currently, Professor Genduso is a full-time professor in the Education Department. She has taught introductory through to the capstone undergraduate classes as well as graduate Education classes. She also observes pre-service teachers in the field.
Frances Congdon
Assistant Professor of Education

Professor Congdon has a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts degree in Education/Reading from East Stroudsburg University where she received her NJ Teaching Certification (K-8) and her NJ Reading Specialist certification (K-12). She continued her education at Rutgers University where she received an Education Specialist degree. Her career in education began in an elementary school where she served a classroom teacher, a reading teacher and established a Gifted and Talented program for the district.
Professor Congdon was an Assistant Professor at Centenary from 1996-2000 and has returned to Centenary this year. In 1999 Professor Congdon wrote and received a grant from the NJ DOE to set up an Alternate Route site in Clinton, NJ. She is presently teaching undergraduate as well as graduate and on-line classes. Professor Congdon is also serving as the faculty representative for KDE.
Dr. Tim Frederiks
Assistant Professor of Education

Dr. Tim Frederiks has his B.S. in Education and MA in Educational Media from Seton Hall University. In addition, he has earned his Ed.S. and Ed.D. in Leadership from Seton Hall, with research concentrations in Professional Development for Teachers and the Use of Programmed Instructional Technology. He has over 35 years of public school experience in a variety of positions from teacher to coach to assorted administrative roles. He most recently served as Superintendent of Schools for Allamuchy Township and Great Meadows Regional School Districts. He has been active on the state level with the New Jersey Association of School Administrators as a member of the Executive Committee and is recognized as a pioneer in shared services for public schools in New Jersey. Dr. Frederiks has previously served as an adjunct at Centenary in the Graduate Education program and has taught Technology, Research and Thesis classes.
Dr. Eric Nixon
Assistant Professor of Education

Professor Eric Nixon graduated from William Paterson College and received a Bachelor of Arts in History Education. He began his graduate work at Montclair State College and earned a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology, as well as, a Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision. Dr. Nixon continued his graduate work at Seton Hall University and earned an Ed. D. in Administration and Supervision. His dissertation was titled Validation Study of Hodson’s “Competencies for the Special Education Director Questionnaire”.
Dr. Nixon also earned New Jersey State Department of Education certificates as Teacher of Social Studies, Teacher of the Handicapped, Teacher of Psychology, Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant, Principal/Supervisor, School Business Administrator, Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Business, and School Administrator.
Dr. Nixon taught adjudicated delinquent adolescents for three-and-a-half years, worked for seven years as a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant on the Hackettstown, New Jersey public school district’s child study team, and for twenty years was a Director of Special Services in the Garfield and Rockaway Township, New Jersey public school districts.
Since April 2003 Dr. Nixon has served as a special education due process panel member for the Delaware Department of Education.
Dr. Nixon joined the Centenary College faculty in September 2007. He has taught courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including Current Issues and Trends in Special Education, Psychology of High and Low Incidence Exceptionalities, and Assistive Technology.
Dr. Marianne Pratschler
Associate Professor of Education

Dr. Marianne Pratschler is an alum of Centenary College with an A.A. in Early Childhood Education and a B. S. in Elementary Education. She holds certifications as Elementary Teacher (K-8) with Nursery School Endorsement, Teacher of English (K-12), Teacher of Psychology, Teacher of the Handicapped, and Supervisor. Professor Pratschler has many years of experience in classrooms across the K-12 spectrum. She received an M. A. in Counseling with a concentration in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education, from Montclair State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Dr. Pratschler has earned an Ed.D. in Teacher Leadership from Walden University. Her research interests are in expanding the team approach to teacher training and improving the experiences of preservice teachers, inservice teachers, and fieldwork supervisors in Centenary’s programs. Dr. Pratschler has taught most of the courses in the education curriculum, as well as psychology and sociology courses that support the teacher preparation programs. Each semester she teachers the Practicum and Student Teaching Seminars and supervises preservice teachers in their field placements.
Dr. Kathleen Prystash
Assistant Professor of Education

Dr. Kathleen Prystash received her B.A. from William Patterson University, in Elementary and Special Education. Additionally, she has two Masters Degrees in Learning Disabilities and Educational Leadership, also from William Patterson University. Her Doctoral Degree is from Seton Hall University in Educational Leadership.
During her education career she has been a Teacher, Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant, Supervisor of the Child Study Team, Director of Special Services, Principal and Superintendent. Also, she has taught for many years as an adjunct instructor at Centenary College receiving the 2004 Outstanding Adjunct Instructor Award.
Dr. Prystash initiated Professional Development Schools in Jefferson and Califon School Districts. Also, she accepted many student teachers from Centenary College while in her roles as Superintendent and Principal. She has also participated on the Centenary College Education Department Liaison Committee.She is excited to join the Education Department faculty and continue the next step in her education career. Dr. Prystash resides in Allamuchy Township with her husband Daniel, a special education teacher in the North Warren School District. They have two children and six grandchildren.
Dr. Linda Schwartz Green
Professor of Education

Director of Special Education Graduate Program

Dr. Green has a B.A. in English from University of Bridgeport, an M.A. in Special Education and Reading from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Ph.D. in Psychological & Cultural Studies and Special Education from University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She holds certifications in Special Education and Teacher of English.
She has worked as a special education teacher and a consultant, preparing and implementing workshops on a variety of topics related to special education.
Dr. Green is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and the Teacher Education Division of CEC. She presents regularly at national special education conferences, is a reviewer of conference proposals for national special education conferences, and a reviewer of manuscripts for special education texts for major education publishers.
Dr. Green has taught most of the special education courses at Centenary on both the undergraduate and graduate level, and she developed the M.A. in Special Education. She serves as the director of the graduate program in special education. She received the Centenary College Distinguished Teacher Award in 2000.
She is the founding advisor of the Centenary College Student Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children.
Michael Russell
Assistant Professor of Education

Mike Russell instructs the introductory courses for Candidates to the Education Department program (EDU 2000: Foundations of Education; EDU 2004: Foundations of Education: Teaching in the Content Areas) and first-year seminar (Academic Foundations at Centenary). Professor Russell is a Ph.D. student currently studying in the Comparative and International Education program at Lehigh University. His research is increasingly focused on non-state provision of educational services, and the interaction between private tutoring and education for sustainable development.
Professor Russell holds a B.B.A. in economics and finance from McKendree University and a M.S. in natural resource and applied economics from the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. In December 2010, he completed a M.Ed. in globalization and educational change at Lehigh University, along with a certificate in international education development. He has also taken postgraduate courses in curriculum design and natural resource management.
Before returning to grad school, Professor Russell worked in rural Alaska as a head teacher and secondary generalist, teaching math, science and social studies to students aged nine to twenty. He is a member of the Comparative and International Education Society, National Council for the Social Studies, the International Society for Ecological Economics, and the International Society for New Institutional Economics.
Dr. Simon Saba
Assistant Professor of Education

Dr. Simon Saba graduated from the Lehigh University with a Masters of Education in Elementary Education and Doctor of Education degree in Educational Technology. During his doctoral studies, he served as the Assistant Director of the Educational Technology Resource Center for the College of Education at Lehigh. He specializes in online learning and the use of technology in classrooms for teaching and learning.
Prior to arriving at Centenary College, Dr. Saba was a classroom teacher at the Marian McKeown Elementary School in Hampton Township Sussex County, New Jersey. During his 30 years with the district, he was a sixth grade teacher primarily in Language Arts and Mathematics. He also served as the district’s technology coordinator for 10 years.At Centenary, Dr. Saba teaches in both the undergraduate teacher preparation program and the online Masters of Education in Educational Practice. He also serves as the coordinator for the online Masters program. In addition, Dr. Saba coproduces professional development workshops for area teachers and a Summer Teachers’ Academy.
Mr. John Sandri
Director of Field Placement & Certification

Mr. Sandri received his B.A. from Montclair State University and his M.A. from New Jersey City University. He has served as a vocational education teacher, special education teacher, and school counselor. His administrative positions have included Vice Principal, Principal, Director of Guidance, Director of Student Personnel Services, and Community Adult School Director. He has experience in public, private and parochial education serving elementary, special, and vocational education as well as middle school and high school.
Currently, Mr. Sandri is the Director of Field Placement for the Education Department at Centenary College in Hackettstown, New Jersey. His responsibilities include student admissions to the Education Department, hiring and supervision of Field Supervisors, placement of students in clinical field experiences and maintaining the TEAC accreditation archive documents and files. Along with his college duties Mr. Sandri is a member of the NJ Field Directors Forum and NJ Principals and Supervisors Association.
