Community Service

Community Service is an integral part of Centenary College's commitment to service.  Centenary is one of the first colleges to require that all of its undergraduate students participate in community service initiatives throughout their college careers.

Community Service is a newly created area within Adult and Professional Programs. The goal of community service in adult education is to assist adult learners in further integrating their learning and fulfilling their service graduation requirement.

It is understood that adults lead busy lives.  Add to that the pursuing of a college degree and time becomes a premium.  Attentive to an adult's limited availability, community service in Adult and Professional Programs can take many forms.

One of the first places to look for volunteer opportunities is current commitments.  It may be a one-time event such as chaperoning a child's class trip or an ongoing engagement like coaching an athletic team.  Some employers offer the opportunity to volunteer during a workday for pay without taking a vacation or personal day.  These activities can be used to fulfill the requirement.

Maybe you are looking to change careers or grow professionally and want to test the waters before making the jump. This requirement can give you that opportunity by matching you with an organization where you can integrate your learning and work toward meeting your career goals.

Check out the Service Examples or take the Community Service Interest Survey as your next steps.
