Program Description
Serving children ages 4 to 18, this summer day treatment program includes therapeutic activities such as swimming, sensory integration; circle time, social skills/ group activities, art therapy, and community outings. Goals will include: Functional communication, compliance, attention to task, social interaction with peers and adults, coping skills and frustration tolerance. Camp runs July through August 2008.

  ANNOUNCEMENT: 2008 SUMMER JOBS/INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE  “SEASONAL RECREATION LEADER” - INTERNSHIP POSITION:   The Hunterdon County Department of Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for full-time Seasonal Recreation Leader/Intern positions for our 2008 season.  We are looking for talented students interested in gaining experience in the parks and recreation field, through paid internships with the Hunterdon County Department of Parks and Recreation. These positions will expose students to many facets of public parks and recreation programming, administration, and management issues, through participation in hands-on work assignments and a variety of public interactions.

Employees/interns will be expected to work a maximum of forty (40) hours per week, in a schedule that may flex to include some evening and/or weekend hours.  Our main office is located in Clinton Township, New Jersey, but the actual work site will be at various locations, throughout Hunterdon County.

DATES:     Late May, through the end of August, 2008

QUALIFICATIONS:  The ideal candidates will have a minimum of three (3) years of college major studies in recreation/leisure, sports management, or a related field.  The positions are open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as those who have recently completed their undergraduate or graduate programs and are seeking temporary practical training.  Applicants should be enthusiastic and self-motivated, have strong communication skills, and a knowledge of recreation programming principles & methods.  Must be able to work independently and within a team, which might be comprised of other interns, volunteers, and/or permanent employees.

Specific duties for this position include (but are not limited to) assisting in the development and operation of recreation programs related to environmental education, cultural, visual & performing arts, and sports programs (some of which are offered as youth summer day camps).  Additional duties will include other areas of recreation programming for all age groups, outdoor public concerts, and community outreach activities at public fairs and events.  Employees/interns must be comfortable working outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. 

Employees/interns must successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check.  Position requires the possession of a valid driver’s license.

Park Naturalist: Full-time, permanent

Under direction, conducts programs designed to inform the public of the historical, natural, and scientific features of a park system or a particular park or other geographic area; does related work as required.

Education/Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the Natural Sciences, Forestry, Conservation, Natural Resources Management, Agriculture, or Park Management.

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid  in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Responsibilities:    

Plans daily, weekly, and monthly work programs and develops effective work methods.

Gives advice and assistance to the general public in the use of the park system and available facilities.
Conducts tours, lectures, and classes.  Interprets ecology, history, and allied natural sciences to the general public and school children in the field and in the classroom.

Keeps records, files, inventories, and records of budget expenditures for nature study programs.

Conducts field research of natural areas and prepares recommendations concerning use of natural resources for program purposes and submits to superiors.

Group Leader: Be a role model, mentor and friend to a group of 12 to 15 children. Visual and Performing Arts: Give children the opportunity to express themselves creatively and experience the sense of accomplishment that comes from mastering techniques and completing projects. Programs include drama, dance, music, art, ceramics, and sculpture.

Sports/Recreation and Outdoor Education: Develop age-appropriate activities that keep children active, help them develop skills and learn about teamwork and sportsmanship. Programs include soccer, basketball, tennis, rugby, ultimate Frisbee, flag football, lacrosse, team-building initiatives, rock climbing and outdoor education.

Swim: Teach the American Red Cross Swimming curriculum to children of all ages and levels. You will be in the water everyday (unless weather prohibitive) and teaching everything from dunking underwater to swimming the entire length of the pool. Swim instructors should be certified lifeguards and have current certification in CPR. Oasis offers lifeguard certification at no charge prior to the beginning of summer. All instructors must attend pre camp trainings for their concentrated area along with 4 days of onsite training.

Administrative Staff: your responsibilities will include communicating with parents, campers and staff regarding a range of organizational issues. You will assist with data entry, phone calls, emails, ordering supplies, organizing and maintaining information that helps the site operate. All administrative staff must participate in 4 days paid training before camp begins as well as training on our database system.

Maintenance/Support Staff: You will be a part of at team that helps keep the site safe, clean and functioning. You will be outside most o the day and much of the work will be physical including equipment set-up and providing easy access to drinking water for children and staff. All maintenance/support staff must participate in 4 days of training before camp begins.

Oasis Leadership Positions: All leadership positions require specialized training in their concentrated areas that typically take place a few weeks before the beginning of camp. Leadership staffs are also required to attend and assist in running the 4 day on-site training for all no-leadership staff.

Division leader: As part f the oasis leadership team you will oversee 3 to 5 groups (approx. 45-75) children and manage 6 to 15 group leaders. You will be responsible for all aspects for the children participation including ensuring safety, communicating with families, handling disciplinary problems and leading day drips. You will also be responsible for training and coaching group leaders and giving them the skills they need to work with children effectively. Eligible candidates should have a master’s degree or previous leadership experience in youth development programs.

Operations director: the operations director takes care of all the programs onsite logistics. Responsibilities include supervising office staff and the maintenance/support team, tracking and reporting camper and staff attendance, managing the database of camper and staff information, coordinating buses and transportation, managing enrollment, ordering supplies, tracking expenses and working closely with oasis headquarters to collect and report all information. Operations directors must be able to maintain order and in chaotic environment and eligible candidates should have previous experience with program management and staff supervision. A master’s degree is preferred.

Program director: the program director is responsible for panning and coordinating the overall program and schedule while supervising, supporting and guiding all instructors. Program directors will supervise a staff of 10-20 instructors and assist in mentoring and evaluation their activity instruction. You will also be responsible for planning and running program-wide special events and creating alternative schedules for rainy days. Program directors must be able to provide constructive daily feedback and eligible candidates must have previous experience in teaching, staff management and coordinating activities.

Health Director: the health director is responsible for all health issues with both children and staff throughout the summer. Health issues range from cuts, bruises and stomach aches to dealing with any serious injuries that may occur. In addition to handling all medical issues that arise, the heal director is responsible for preparing all paperwork required by the health department and carefully documenting all incidents that occur. Health directors must be NYS licensed Emergency medical technician, RN or LPN. In addition, you should have a current certificate in responding to emergency first aid issued by the American Red Cross and you must have successfully completed a CPR course within the past year.

Swim director: the swim director oversees all aquatic activities at camp and supervises the instructional swim program. M safety is the highest priority and oasis adheres to the requirements of the American camp association and the America Red Cross, as well as the regulations of the department of health. The swim director is responsible for assessing the skill levels of all campers and staff, executing a system of regular buddy checks and coordinating the implementation indoor activates as determined by the site director. Swim directors must e at least 21 years of age, have 3 seasons of precious waterfront experience as a lifeguard and or pool director and possess a current WSI Certificate from the American Red Cross, YMCA or other recognized training programs, and should also have current lifeguard and CPR certifications.

Interventionist: The interventionist provides social work services to children and staff at oasis funded programs in inner city neighborhoods. Interventionist will work on eon one with children who are unable to behave appropriately or who are not being successful in the program and responds to all situations involving disruptive staff or child conflicts. The position requires experience counseling children in the area of conflict resolution, diversity training and behavioral disorders. Candidates should have their MSW, CSW or a master’s degree in psychology and must have completed a field internship in a similar setting.

Job Description
The Fiver Children's Foundation is a comprehensive youth development organization that empowers children from underserved communities to develop life skills and to reach their full potential.  Fiver's 10 year commitment to each child includes year-round mentoring and counseling programs, a character building residential summer camp, and partnerships with schools and community based organizations.

The Equine Director will oversee all equine programs at our camp’s horse barn.   He or she will create and implement an equine program that offers campers (ages 8-16) a variety of opportunities to explore, learn about, and appreciate activities with horses.  He or she will supervise a team of 1-2 counselors that will assist with the program, and will be responsible for the well-being and overall health of five horses.  As a director of a program, this person will also have some supervisory responsibilities in camp which include leading all-camp activities and events and assisting with supervision of the staff and campers on some evenings.

Additional Qualifications
The Equine Director must be at least 21 years of age and will have completed at least two years of college.  She or he must have certification as an instructor from a nationally recognized organization or riding school, or documented endorsements of successful experience in formal horseback riding instruction.  She or he must have at least 3 months of management or supervisory experience at a horseback riding facility.

Located in beautiful upstate New York, Camp Fiver is a four hour trip from New York City and is 45 minutes southeast of Syracuse. Truly a “home away from home,” Camp Fiver ‘s 129-acre refuge includes a lake, a river, woodlands, a learning center, dining hall, horse barn and more. The Equine Director must live at or commute to Camp Fiver for all four two-week sessions including one week of training prior to camp.
