Life Learning Portfolio Guidelines

CCS 300: The Nature of Work

The portfolio should be well organized and include a table of contents.  All CCS 300 Life Learning portfolios are to include:

  1. An essay detailing how the sought degree will be used to advance, enhance, or change the career of the student (1-2 pgs).

  2. An essay detailing some current trend, controversy, or issue occurring within the industry or profession in which the student is currently working (2-3 pgs).  At least three sources must be used and cited.

  3. A current resume

  4. Awards and/or certificates earned in the work place.

  5. A 3-5 page research and application paper (at least 5 sources must be used and cited) that examines work, and the nature of it, in its larger social context.  This is done by identifying and discussing the linkages between "work" and other aspects of culture and social structure.  Some social theorists that might be helpful include: George Ritzer, Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile Durkheim (this list is not exhaustive and many others write on related topics).
