![]() Women's Lacrosse Falls to Moravian in Final Game.(04/27/2006) Hackettstown, NJ --- Earlier Thursday afternoon the Lady Cyclones of Centenary dropped their final game of the season to visiting Moravian College by the final of 11-7. The Greyhounds opened the afternoon scoring the games first three goals of the game, thanks to two score from Lindsey Lustrino and another from Jess Cordani. The Lady Cyclones then returned the favor scoring the next three to knot the score at 3-3, with just over 15 minutes remaining in the half. Moravian broke through for a fourth goal at the 9:13 mark when Cordani found Lustrino for her third tally. The visitors took a 5-3 advantage into the halftime break, when Lustrino scored just before the halftime whistle sounded. As the second half began Moravian quickly jumped to a7-3 advantage, before Centenary's Dana Pizzi (Rockaway / Vernon) netted the team's fourth goal at the 24:10 mark of the half. Pizzi followed that eight minutes later with her second goal, but not before Moravian had also found the cage once more. Her goal pulled Centenary to within 8-5, but that was as close as the Lady Cyclones would get. The visiting Greyhounds iced the game scoring two times over the next eight minutes, eventually outlasting the host Lady Cyclones by the final of 11-7. For Moravian, Lindsey Lustrino led all scorers totaling seven goals ad one assist. As for Centenary, Pizzi, along with Lauren Feldman (Sicklerville / Washington Twp.), and Clare Johnson (Morris Plains / Morristown) all scored two goals each. Centenary goalkeeper Laura Davis (Oak Ridge / Vernon Twp.) made 14 saves in the season finale. Women's Lacrosse Falls to Mount St. Vincent.(04/18/2006) Newburgh, NY --- The Centenary Women's Lacrosse team played their fourth consecutive Skyline contest on Tuesday afternoon at Mount Saint Vincent. The Lady Cyclones were in search their frist conference victory of the year, and had hopes of snapping their current eight game losing streak. However the result was not to be, as Centenary was unable to solve the Dolphin defense and goalie Tara Staples. In the first half MSV allowed just five Centenary shots, while Staples made saves on three of them. The home team shutout the Lady Cyclones in the half for the fourth time this spring and held a 9-0 advantage at the halftime break. In the second period MSV opened the scoring again, netting three more shots in the first five minutes. Centenary's Nicole Becker (2 goals) and Lauren Feldman ran off three straight for the Lady Cyclones over the next nine minutes pulling the deficit to 12-3. With just over 12 minutes remaining the score remained 12-3 in favor of the Dolphins, and Centenary was unable to put any type of comback together. MSV put the finishing touches on the victory by scoring four more times, to Centenary's one. The victory improves Mount Saint Vincent to 6-7 overall, 3-2 in the Skyline Conference. As for Centenary Becker and Feldman each tallied two scores, with one assist each going to Dana Pizzi and Clare Johnson. Lady Cyclones Fall to Kean 19-3.(04/11/2006) Hillside, NJ --- The Centenary women fell behind early in last night's lacrosse game and were unable to dig their way out. Kean jumped out to a 10-0 advantage in the first half of play, and the Lady Cyclones had to play catch up throughout the remainder of the game. Centenary's Michelle Garone scored the team first goal at the 18:21 mark of the second half, and then followed that up with a second scoring chance ten minutes later. Her teammate Nicole Becker tallied the final Centenary goal with just over eight minutes left in the game, leaving the final deficit at 19-3. The loss drops the Lady Cyclones 1-10 overall, 0-3 in the Skyline Conference. Centenary will be in action again next Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Mount Saint Vincent for another conference match-up. Lady Cyclones Falls to Rams 13-8.(04/04/2006) Farmingdale, NY --- The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 2-3, 1-1 in the Skyline today with a 13-8 victory against visiting Centenary College (1-9, 0-2) in Farmingdale, NY. The Rams opened the scoring with a goal from freshman Nicole Brett (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) 1:02 into the game, before Cyclones sophomore Nicole Becker (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) evened the score at 1-1 a minute later. Farmingdale State would outscore Centenary 9-2 through the first to take a 10-3 lead into the half. The Cyclones came back strong in the second, scoring four goals in the first 15 minutes to make it an 11-7 game. But the Rams' freshmen Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) and Brett added another goal each, stopping the Centenary scoring streak to make it 13-7 with 4:20 left on the clock. Rokee, this week's Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, finished the game with three goals and one assist for Farmingdale State. Freshman Jessica Kramer (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) led the team with six points (four goals and two assists). Brett and freshman Sam Bidermann (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) each had two goals apiece, while junior Gina Shore (Holbrook, NY/Sachem) and freshman Samantha Boeger (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) tallied one goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrea MacIntyre (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) made five saves for the win. For Centenary, senior Dana Pizzi (Rockaway, NJ/Vernon) scored three goals. Lady Cyclones Drop Conference Match-Up 19-2 to Montclair.(04/1/2006) Hackettstown, NJ --- This afternoon in a rainy, wet contest the visiting Hawks of Montclair State downed the home Lady Cyclones of Centenary 19-2 in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams. MSU's Ann Daily (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) led the way for the Hawks this afternoon scoring five goals, including four in the first half. Daily's team jumped out early on the host Lady Cyclones, scoring four times in the opening 10 minutes of play. From there the Hawks added four more in the next ten minutes, on their way to a 14-0 advantage at the halftime break. In addition to Daily's four scores in the half, MaryKate DiBenedetto (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) also scored three goals, and assisted on another. In the second period, Montclair State went to their possession style of play, using the clock to their advantage and not allowing the Lady Cyclones many opportunities to score. Centenary was able to notch two goals in the second half, one coming off the stick of Nicole Becker (Randolph / Randolph) at the three-minute mark and the other from Dana Pizzi (Rockaway / Vernon) in the closing minute of play. For Montclair Ann Daily tallied five total points, to go along with DiBenedetto, Shauna Brocklebank (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch), and Bethany Blaine (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown ) who all totaled four a piece. Lady Colonels Post 16-5 Women's Lacrosse Win Over Centenary.(3/30/2006) Wilkes-Barre PA --- Colonels Freshman Catherine Simone scored six goals and handed out a pair of assists to lead Wilkes University to a 16-5 non-conference women’s lacrosse win over Centenary College on Thursday afternoon at Ralston Field. The win improves the Lady Colonels to 2-3 overall, while the Cyclones see their record slip to 1-7. Simone scored twice and had one assist in the opening 13:31 of the contest to help Wilkes jump out to a 6-0 lead. Jennifer Compton and Stacy Fimmano added a goal and an assist each during the spurt, while Shannon Chlebus and Lyndsay Asinelli tallied once apiece. Centenary would get on the board at the 17:21 mark when Michelle Garone scored unassisted. But, Fimmano and Simone would each add a goal later in the stanza to give Wilkes an 8-1 lead at halftime. Fimmano finished the afternoon with three goals and three assists for Wilkes, while Chlebus added three goals and one helper. Compton chipped in with two goals and one assist and Asinelli tallied a pair of goals. Hood Women's Lacrosse Edges Centenary in Home Opener.(3/21/2006) Frederick, MD --- Senior Annie Lavery scored off an assist from junior Laurie Burrier with 6:06 remaining to lift Hood to a home opening 7-6 win over Centenary Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field. The Blazers (2-1) held a 5-1 lead early in the second half before the Cyclones (1-6) scored five of the next six goals to tie the game with just over eight minutes remaining. Lavery came through in the clutch with her second goal of the game, taking a Pitts feed from behind the net and beating Lauren Davis. Centenary had several chances in the closing minutes but Hood held on for the victory. Pitts gave the Blazers an early 1-0 lead when she scored an unassisted goal just 40 seconds into the game. The score remained the same for almost 10 minutes until freshman Liz Rakowski converted a pass from sophomore Christa Lundskow. Lavery then struck just over two minutes later off an assist from sophomore Regina Bakely, and Rakowski notched her second goal of the afternoon with help from Burrier at the 17:05 mark to give the Blazers 4-0 advantage. Dana Pizzi put Centenary on the board with an unassisted goal with just under seven minutes left in the first half as Hood took a 4-1 lead at the break. Burrier scored her second goal of the day just 1:39 into the second half before the Cyclones went on their 5-1 run. Centenary found the net three times in a span of one minute, 52 seconds to forge a tie and set up Lavery's game-winner. Sophomore Lauren Lieb made six saves for Hood, while Davis stopped four shots for Centenary. Lady Cyclones Lose Tough 11-9 Decision to Castleton.(3/18/2006) Hackettstown, NJ --- In their second consecutive game of the weekend this afternoon, the Centenary Women's Lacrosse team fell to Castleton State by the final of 11-9. The game started in a flash as the visiting Spartans took the opening draw, went to the net, and scored 13 seconds into the game. Over the next minutes the two teams traded one score each. Then at the 20-minute mark of the first half Centenary's Clare Johnson (Morris Plains / Morristown) and Nicole Becker (Randolph / Randolph) scored back-to-back goals giving the Lady Cyclones their first lead at 3-2. Castleton returned the favor as Bailey Emilo (Middlebury, VT / Middlebury Union) and Katelyn Greene (Westborough, MA / Westborough) took the lead back for the Spartans at the 1:58 mark. Centenary would again cash in on two more scoring chances before the end of the half, and take the 5-4 advantage into the break. In the second half it was more of the same back and forth excitement although the lead did only hands one more time. The Lady Cyclones extended their lead to 6-4 on a goal by Dana Pizzi (Rockaway / Vernon) early in the half. Castleton State then proceeded to score the four goals and take control of the game 8-6 with just over 17 minutes remaining in the contest. Despite a valiant late game charge by the host Lady Cyclones who got two goals from Becker in the final five minutes, the visiting Spartans held on for the 11-9 victory. Castleton's Katelyn Greene led the way to the victory scoring five goals and assisting on another. Nicole Bouchard (Williston, VT / Champlain Valley Union) and Bailey Emilo also added two goals a piece. As for Centenary Becker and teammate Michelle Garone(West Hempstead / West Hempstead) paced the home team with three goals each, while Johnson added two scores and an assist. Lady Cyclones Fall Short in a Tough Battle to University of Redlands Bulldogs.(3/17/2006) Hackettstown, NJ --- In a tough battle today at Centenary College, the Cyclone's Lose a hard fought match to Univ. of Redlands(CA) Bulldogs 12-5. The Bulldog's took an early commanding lead in the first half going up 10-2 at the end of the period. Bulldog's Lydia Ramsey (Indianola, WA/ North Kitsap) and Aislynn Neish (Portland, OR/ Sunset) led the team scoring all of their combined seven goals in the first half. Cyclone's Clare Johnson (Morris Plains, NJ/ Morristown) posted two goals in the half, one assisted by Dana Pizzi, kept Centenary going strong. The Cyclone's also boasted a valiant effort by goalie Laura Davis (Oak Ridge, NJ/ Vernon Twp.) putting up 11 tremendous saves throughout the game. Johnson finished off her hat trick in the second half while the Cyclone's went on a 3-0 tear. Nicole Becker (Randolph, NJ/ Randolph) and Michelle Garone (West Hempstead, NJ/ West Hempstead) also scored during that half. But late game heroics from the Cyclone's were only met with defeat while in the last seconds Bulldog's Christine Bellows (Upper Arlington, OH/ The Wellington School) finished her search for a hat trick to put the final score at 12-5. The Centenary Cyclone's continue there homestand into the weekend where they will host Castleton State College tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm on Cyclone Field at the back of Centenary's main campus. Falcons Drop Frosty Season Opener to Centenary.(3/14/2006) --- Despite unbelievably adverse weather conditions, with winds gusting above 30mph and forcing the wind chill below freezing, Cedar Crest charged out of the gate and went toe-to-toe with the visiting Lady Cyclones of Centenary College through the entire first half of play. In fact, at the midpoint the Falcons entered the warmth of the locker room up 7-6. But the story in the second half was quite different as Cedar Crest cooled off considerably and failed to score again, losing 10-7. The Cyclones ultimately outshot the Falcons 30-14. For Cedar Crest, Bri Adam and Kirsten Gustafson each had 3 unassisted goals, and Amanda Steczak had 1 off an assist by Danielle Skinner. Steczak also had 2 ground balls, as did Brittanney Smith and Emily Dittmar. Keri McDevitt had 10 saves in 60 minutes in net. Cedar Crest scooped up 9 ground balls and forced 5 Centenary turnovers. Visiting FDU-Florham Too Much for Lady Cyclones in Opener.(3/9/2006) Hackettstown, NJ --- Earlier this afternoon the visiting Devils of FDU-Florham spoiled the Centenary College home opener by defeating them in Women's Lacrosse by the final of 19-0. FDU who was playing their 2006 opener today broke the game opener early in the first half , scoring six times in the half's first fifteen minutes. The Devils then added seven more over the final fifteen minute span that closed the period and took a commanding 13-0 advantage with them into the intermission. The second half was more of the same, unfortunately for the host Lady Cyclones, as FDU used a more patient and ball controlled offense in the second half scoring six times in the period Centenary goalkeeper Laura Davis (Oak Ridge / Vernon Twp.) made five saves on the afternoon, although the Devils out-shot Centenary 29-5 for the game. 'Cats Edge Cyclones, 13-10.(3/7/2006) New Castle, DE --- The Wildcats of Wilmington College rallied for a 13-10 victory over the visiting Cyclones of Centenary College in women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex. The two teams entered the half tied at six apiece, but the Wildcats struck early in the opening minutes of the second period as Katelyn Gibas and Colby Bugda found the back of the net just seconds apart. Centenary answered back and took a one goal advantage with just over 12 minutes remaining as the Cyclones' Lauren Feldman, Michelle Garone, and Kristal McCullen scored a goal each over the span of seven minutes. Down by one, Wilmington's Kelly Wojciechowski sparked a three goal run of her own at the 9:41 mark. Her last goal came with 5:15 remaining, and her scoring outburst gave the 'Cats the cushion they would need to secure the victory. Freshman Kelly Wojciechowski led the way for Wilmington, scoring five goals and adding an assist. Fellow frosh Katelyn Gibas picked up a hat trick and an assist, while sophomores Colby Bugda and Christina Knight each netted two goals. Bugda also added two assists, and sophomore Amanda Beasley rounded out the scoring with a goal and an assist. Freshman Kelsey LaPlume picked up her first point of the season, when she notched an assist on a goal from Wojciechowski. Centenary was paced by Lauren Feldman's five goal, one assist performance. Nicole Becker chipped in with two goals and an assist, while Michelle Garone, Dana Pizzi, and Kristal McCullen each scored once. Clare Johnson and Garone also each recorded an assist. Sophomore keeper Catie Smith made three saves in goal for the Wildcats, as she picked up her fourth victory of the season. Cyclone goalie, Laura Davis recorded 11 saves in the loss. The Wildcats out-shot the visitors 19-13 and held an astounding 11-2 advantage in ground balls. With the win, Wilmington improved to 4-0 on the season, while Centenary fell to 0-1 in their first action of the season.
