Season Review![]() HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (June 17, 2011) - A year after setting program records with 13 wins and seven conference victories, head coach John McCloskey knew that the Centenary women’s lacrosse team would have a hard time replicating such feats. In 2012, however, the team came close, finishing with nine wins, six conference victories and another Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament appearance. The team received six All-CSAC postseason awards. Juniors Danielle Bay and Meredith Bruce led the way, as each were named to the First Team, while sophomores Alysia Pinkerton and Nicole Judd took home Second Team accolades and junior Hannah Ally and sophomore Allie Swartz were given Honorable Mentions. Bay led the team in points (57) and goals (44) and tied for second in assists (13). She also tallied 40 groundballs, 34 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers. In her first year with the Cyclones, Bruce contributed 55 points on 42 goals and 13 assists while recording 38 groundballs. Pinkerton had a career year, setting personal-highs in goals (27), assists (eight) and points (35) while also recording team-highs in draw controls (64) and caused turnovers (25). The 64 draw controls is a new Centenary single-season program record and she ranked 22nd nationally in draw controls and 58th in caused turnovers. Judd recorded 26 points on 18 goals and eight assists along with 45 groundballs, 31 draw controls and nine caused turnovers and finished 75th in the country in groundballs. Ally finished fourth on the team in points (43), goals (33) and assists (10) during her first year with the women’s lacrosse team while Swartz led CC with 16 assists while finishing third in points (52) and goals (36). She also recorded 46 groundballs, 63rd in the country, along with 15 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. Goalie Ako Nakabun went 5-3 on the year with 75 saves and a 10.07 goals against average, the 52nd-best mark of the country. Centenary opened its season 3-1, including a 23-21 win over Neumann. After a pair of losses, including a 13-12 defeat at the hands of in-state rival Kean. But CC then went on a six-game losing streak, going 4-0 in the CSAC during that stretch, including a 16-10 win over eventual conference champion Gwynedd-Mercy. The team will be without senior defensive leaders Lauren LaMotta and Eva Imperatore next season, but with all of its offense returning and the experience the younger defenders received, the team will again be competing for a CSAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Off the field, the team earned 11 CSAC All-Academic Team accolades. |
