(April 3, 2009) – Centenary women’s basketball junior guard Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) was named Second Team All-ECAC, the league announced Friday. It marks the second postseason award for Camuso, who also earned All-Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) First Team honors. Camuso finished the season ranked fourth in the nation in scoring, averaging 21.8 points per contest, while leading the Lady Cyclones to their first-ever ECAC Tournament appearance. Centenary finished the 2008-09 campaign with a 17-9 record, 12-4 in the CSAC. Camuso also ranked first nationally in three pointers per game (3.7) and 33rd in steals (3.3). Within the conference, she was first in scoring, first in three pointers per game, sixth in free throw percentage (.767), second in steals and second in minutes played (35.6). Centenary Women’s Basketball Finishes Season As Top Scoring Team In The Nation
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (March 26, 2009) – Centenary women’s basketball finished the 2008-09 campaign as the highest scoring team in Division III, averaging 81.5 points per contest. In the final national statistics, the Lady Cyclones were also fourth in three-point field goals per game (7.5), 13th in steals per game (13.3) and 33rd in turnover margin (5.04). Junior guard Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) finished fourth in the nation in scoring, averaging 21.8 points per contest. She also ranked first nationally in three pointers per game (3.7) and 33rd in steals (3.3). Teammate Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) ranked 13th in steals (3.7) and 62nd in assists (4.5), while sophomore Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) averaged 11.5 rebounds per contest, good for 19th in the country. As a team, Centenary led the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) in scoring, three pointers per game, steals and turnover margin. Individually, Camuso was first in scoring, first in three pointers per game, sixth in free throw percentage and second in steals behind Vasta. The two teammates were also second and third in minutes played, as Camuso averaged 35.6 and Vasta 35.4 per game. Vasta was also first in the conference in assists and fourth in assist/turnover ratio. DiStasio finished fourth in the CSAC in rebounding, including second-place in defensive rebounds and fifth in offensive rebounds. Centenary Women’s Basketball Falls In First-Ever ECAC Tournament Match
PURCHASE, N.Y. (March 4, 2009) – Playing in its first ECAC Tournament in program history, the Centenary women’s basketball team fell at Manhattanville, 79-71, Wednesday in Purchase, N.Y. Three players scored in double-figures for the Lady Cyclones, led by junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea), who tallied 26 on nine-of-18 shooting, including four-of-nine from three point range. Camuso passed the 1,000 point mark for her career with her performance against the Valiants; she now has 1,019 points. “I cannot be more proud of my team,” said Lorie Khalil. “They played exactly the way we have been asking, with 40 minutes of hustle. Although I am disappointed with the result, I am extremely proud of the way we played tonight.” Freshman Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) finished with 17 points on eight-of-17 shooting, while leading the team in both assists (six) and steals (four). Sophomore Leah Murphy (Hamburg, N.Y./Mount Mercy Academy) recorded 10 points, shooting four-of-five from the free throw line. Sophomore Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) led the team with nine rebounds, while also recording six points, two steals, one block and one assist. Rebounding cost the Lady Cyclones, as Manhattanville outboarded them 62-33, including a 25-7 mark on the offensive glass. After a back-and-forth opening stretch, the score was knotted at nine with 15:19 remaining in the first half. Centenary then took control, going on an 18-2 run to take a 27-11 lead with 10:25 to go. The Lady Cyclones would build their lead to 19 on a three-point play by Murphy and a fastbreak layup by freshman Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), giving the road squad a 36-17 edge with 6:37 to play in the stanza. But Manhattanville was able to climb back into the game, thanks to a 16-2 advantage on the offensive glass in the first half. Although the Lady Cyclones shot 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from the floor while holding their opponents to 34.1 percent (15-of-44), they went into the locker room with a 41-37 halftime edge. However, the Valiants scored the first four points of the second half to tie the score at 41, and after a back-and-forth stretch the game was knotted at 50 with 11:54 remaining. Manhattanville went on a 6-0 run to take a 56-50 lead, and then held off a furious Centenary assault. Trailing 67-59, Camuso hit two consecutive three pointers to bring the Lady Cyclones within four, at 69-65. But they would get no closer, and Manhattanville won 79-71. “This game was a glimpse of what is to come for Centenary women’s basketball,” said Khalil. “This team will give everything they can. We will have two seniors next year in Camuso and Nikki VanTassel (Franklin, NJ/Wallkill Valley Regional), and they will make sure of it. We will not be satisfied until we win our conference championship and earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament. That is the goal, nothing less.”
Centenary Women's Basketball Ready For First-Ever Appearance In ECAC Tournament
PURCHASE, N.Y. (March 3, 2009) – The Centenary women’s basketball team will compete in its first-ever ECAC Tournament on Wednesday, March 4, when it travels to Purchase, N.Y., to face Manhattanville at 7:00 p.m. The game marks the Lady Cyclones first postseason other than conference championships since 1999-2000, when they fell to Richard Stockton 80-45 in the NCAA Tournament. “It is a great honor to be recognized by the region to participate in the ECAC tournament,” said head coach Lorie Khalil. “This is our first trip to a post-season besides our conference tourney in nine years. It was a goal in the beginning of the year and feels great that we accomplished it. We can be happy but not satisfied with it, we want to win.” The Lady Cyclones finished the regular season 17-7, falling to Cedar Crest 82-71 in the opening game of the CSAC Championship. Manhattanville fell just short of an NCAA Tournament berth, losing in the Freedom Conference Championship game to No. 23 DeSales, 70-60, on Feb. 28. The Valiants were led this season by senior Olivia Nastasi, who averaged 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. She was named to the conference’s First Team, while junior Nina Johnson (9.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest) earned Second Team honors. Head coach Candice Brown was named Freedom Conference Coach of the Year. Centenary has not faced the Valiants since both were in the Skyline Conference. In their last meeting, The Lady Cyclones came away with an 86-79 victory on the road on Feb. 15, 2007. This season featured one common opponent for both teams in Delaware Valley. Manhattanville split its series, losing 78-72 on the road on Jan. 3 and winning 67-64 at home on Feb. 7. Lady Cyclones Fall To Cedar Crest 82-71 In Opening Round Of CSAC Tournament
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 23, 2009) – The Centenary women’s basketball team fell to Cedar Crest, 82-71, in the opening round of the CSAC Tournament, Monday in Hackettstown, N.J. Freshman Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) led three Lady Cyclones in double-figures with a game-high 20 points, on eight-of-18 shooting. Vasta also recorded team-highs in both assists (five) and steals (four), while playing all 40 minutes of the contest. She was joined in double-figures by sophomore Leah Murphy (Hamburg, N.Y./Mount Mercy Academy), who finished with 17 points, and freshman Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), who tallied 15. Junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea), 15 points shy of 1,000 for her career entering the game, was held back by the Cedar Crest defenders, who doubled and sometimes triple-teamed her every time she touched the ball. Camuso finished with eight points after averaging 40.0 points in the two regular season contests against the Falcons. Cedar Crest jumped out to an early lead in the first half, building its advantage to as many as seven early, at 11-4, before a Centenary run cut the lead to three, at 24-21, with 9:57 remaining. But the Falcons outscored the Lady Cyclones 19-11 the rest of the way and went into the locker room with a 43-32 halftime edge. In the second half, however, Centenary found its offensive flow, going on a 17-5 run, capped by a steal and a fast break layup by Vasta, to take a 49-48 lead with 15:06 remaining. The Cyclones built their advantage to as many as six, at 63-57 with 6:59 to go, before Cedar Crest asserted itself once again. The Falcons went on a 16-4 run to take a 73-67 lead and did not look back, winning 82-71. Cedar Crest saw five players score in double figures, including two who recorded double-doubles. Kelly Oakes finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Liz Sunderhaus tallied 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. The Falcons move on to play top-seed Cabrini on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Centenary Women’s Basketball To Host Opening Round Of CSAC Tournament
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 23, 2009) – The Centenary women’s basketball team (17-7, 12-4) will host its first conference tournament in more than four years when Cedar Crest (13-11, 8-8) comes to the Foulkner Family Gymnasium in Hackettstown, N.J., Monday at 7:00 p.m. Centenary clinched the third seed by defeating Philadelphia Biblical 63-53 on Feb. 20, while Cedar Crest dropped two of its last three contests to earn the sixth seed. The game will be broadcast on PennAtlantic.com and locally on 91.9 FM WNTI. The Lady Cyclones are looking to advance past the first round of their conference tournament for the first time since the 2005-06 season, when they fell to top-seed Mount St. Mary in the quarterfinals of the Skyline Championship. Last year, Centenary dropped a 79-62 road contest to Alvernia in the opening game of the PAC tournament. Cedar Crest is playing in its first conference championship game in more than a decade. The Falcons and the Lady Cyclones split the season series this year, as each team held serve at home. Cedar Crest won 111-104 in overtime on Jan. 29 and Centenary won 83-74 in Hackettstown on Feb. 14. Junior guard Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) averaged 40.0 points, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 rebounds in the two contests against the Falcons. Camuso was named to the conference’s First Team, while Vasta earned Second Team honors. It marks the first such awards for each player. The two players were in the top five in a number of statistical categories in the conference. They finished one and two in steals, as Vasta averaged 3.82 while Camuso swiped 3.59 per game. Camuso led the conference in scoring, averaging 22.3 points per contest, and three point shots, with 3.82 per contest. Vasta was first in assists, with 4.64 per match. Centenary Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season With 63-53 Win At Philadelphia Biblical
LANGHORNE, Pa. (February 20, 2009) – The Centenary women’s basketball team (17-7, 12-4 CSAC) closed out its regular season with a 63-53 win at Philadelphia Biblical (5-20, 1-15 CSAC), Friday night in Langhorne, Pa. Junior guard Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) led the way with a game-high 22 points, while fellow classmate Nikki VanTassel (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) picked up a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Leah Murphy (Hamburg, N.Y./Mount Mercy Academy) also finished in double figures with 11 points. The Lady Cyclones held PBU to 19-of-57 shooting for the game, limiting their opponent to 34.5 percent (10-of-29) in the first half and 32.1 percent (nine-of-28) in the second period. Everyone who saw action for Centenary grabbed at least one rebound. Dani Norton tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Crimson Eagles. Centenary led wire-to-wire, jumping out to an early lead and building its advantage to as many as 18 in the first half before a late Philadelphia Biblical run cut the edge to eight, 35-27, at the half. In the second period, the Lady Cyclones kept their lead in double digits for most of the stanza, holding off the Crimson Eagles to win by 10. CC has clinched a berth in the CSAC tournament, and barring a loss by Gwynedd-Mercy to Rosemont on Feb. 21, the Lady Cyclones will host Cedar Crest on Monday, Feb. 23, at 7:00 p.m.
Lady Cyclones Fall At Marywood, 104-89
SCRANTON, Pa. (February 16, 2009) – The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped its first game in four contests, falling to Marywood 104-89, Monday night in Scranton, Pa. Four Lady Cyclones finished in double-figures, led by a career-high 29 points from freshman Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton). Vasta shot 13-of-20 from the floor, setting a career-high in field goals and matching her career-high in field goal attempts, previously set against Philadelphia Biblical on Jan. 19. Junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) scored 23 points on eight-of-15 shooting, including seven-of-eight from the free throw line. Junior Nikki VanTassel (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) finished with 13 points, shooting seven-of-10 from the free throw line and sophomore Marissa DiStassio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Centenary fell behind early and went into the halftime locker rooms down by 12, trailing 46-34. The Lady Cyclones shot 40.9 percent in the opening period (nine-of-22), but gave up 17 field goals to their opponent. In the second half, Centenary picked up the offensive pace, shooting 53.7 percent from the floor (22-of-41), but Marywood connected on a 57.1 clip (16-of-28) in the period to hold off the Lady Cyclones. Centenary falls to 16-7 overall, 11-4 in the CSAC. With the win, Maywood (15-9, 10-5 CSAC) cuts the Lady Cyclones’ lead in the North Division to one game, with one game remaining for both teams. Camuso Scores 31 To Lead Centenary To 83-74 Win Over Cedar Crest
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 14, 2009) – Junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) netted a game-high 31 points, including 23 in the second half, to lead Centenary to an 83-74 come-from-behind victory over Cedar Crest, Saturday in Hackettstown, N.J. Camuso shot seven-of-13 in the second period, including six three pointers. In two games against the Falcons this season, the junior is averaging 40.0 points and 8.5 three pointers, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 rebounds per contest. After allowing the Falcons to shoot 47.8 percent from the floor (43-of-90) in Cedar Crest’s 111-104 overtime victory on Jan. 29, Centenary picked up its defensive intensity and held its opponent to 35.2 percent from the floor (25-of-71) on Saturday, including a shooting mark of 30.8 (12-of-39) in the decisive second half. Besides Camuso, two other Lady Cyclones finished in double-figures, as sophomore Leah Murphy (Hamburg, N.Y./Mount Mercy Academy) tallied 18 and freshman Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) scored 10. Freshman Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine assists. Liz Sunderhaus led the way for the Falcons, scoring 26 points and grabbing a game-high 22 rebounds, as they fell to 12-10, 7-7 in the conference. The first half was a back-and-forth affair, featuring seven ties and eight lead changes. A three pointer by Sunderhaus gave the road team a 38-36 lead with 12 seconds remaining in the period. Murphy brought the Cyclones to within two with a free throw with two seconds to go and Centenary went into halftime trailing 38-36. In the second half, however, a quick 6-0 Centenary run gave the home team a 42-38 lead. Freshman Jasmine Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) hit a three pointer to give the Cyclones a seven-point advantage, 68-61, with 8:12 remaining, but Cedar Crest answered with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 70 with 5:44 to go. Then Camuso took over, nailing three consecutive three pointers to give Centenary a 79-70 lead. A steal and a fast break layup by Murphy and a jumper by sophomore Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) gave the home squad an 83-70 lead, and they held on to win 83-74. With the victory, Centenary improves to 16-6 overall, 11-3 in the conference. The Cyclones hold a two-game lead over CSAC North Division second-place team Marywood, CC’s next opponent. The two teams will meet in Scranton, PA on Feb. 16, at 6:00 p.m.
Centenary Women Come From Behind To Defeat Baptist Bible 82-78HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 9, 2009) – The Centenary women’s basketball team (15-6, 10-3 CSAC) came from as many as 10 points down to defeat Baptist Bible (7-14, 4-9 CSAC) 82-78, Monday night in Hackettstown, N.J. Five student-athletes scored in double-figures in the come-back victory, led by freshman Jen Vasta’s (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) 18 points. As a team, Centenary finished 27-of-38 from the charity stripe, including 12-of-14 in the second half to help seal the win. Vasta shot seven-of-12 from the floor, while contributing six assists, six rebounds and four steals. Centenary received a pair of 17-point performances by junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph’s by the Sea) and sophomore Leah Murphy (Hamburg, N.Y./Mount Mercy Academy). Murphy also totaled seven rebounds, four steals and two assists while shooting seven-of-eight from the free throw line. Freshman Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) scored 14 points while sophomore Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. The two teams went back-and-forth in the first half before an 8-0 Defenders run gave them a 19-9 lead with 12:12 remaining in the opening period. A 13-4 run brought the home squad to within one, 22-23, but BBC responded with a 17-9 run to close out the half, and Centenary went to the locker room trailing 40-31. The Lady Cyclones came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, going on a 15-0 run to take a 46-40 lead. Camuso scored seven points in that run. The home team led by 13, 68-55, with 7:49 remaining, before the Defenders mounted a 12-0 run to cut the lead to one with 4:02 remaining. But Centenary shot eight-of-10 from the free throw line in the final four minutes of the contest to hold off its opponent, including two by DiStasio with nine seconds remaining. With the win, the Lady Cyclones have a game advantage on Marywood in the North Division, as the Pacers fell to Cedar Crest 66-59 Monday night. Centenary looks to build on its lead on Saturday, Feb. 14, when it faces that same Cedar Crest squad at home at 1:00 p.m.

Camuso led the Lady Cyclones to a 1-1 week, averaging 18.0 points, 4.5 steals, four rebounds and two assists per game. It is the fourth conference award for Camuso this season, as she was named to the Honor Roll on Jan. 12 and Jan. 19, and was named Player of the Week on Feb. 2. Camuso scored a team-high 14 points in Centenary’s 78-52 loss at Cabrini on Feb. 2, while recording three steals and two assists. In the Lady Cyclones’ 83-67 home win over Keystone on Feb. 7, the junior shot nine-of-12 from the free throw line en route to a game-high 22 points, while also tallying six steals, six rebounds and four assists. She leads the team in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per contest. Centenary returns to action on Monday, Feb. 9, against Baptist Bible, in a home double-header. HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 7, 2009) – The Centenary women’s basketball team (14-6, 9-3 CSAC) defeated Keystone (9-11, 4-8 CSAC), 83-67, Saturday afternoon in Hackettstown, NJ. Junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's by the Sea) led the way with 22 points, including nine-of-12 from the free throw line, as three players scored in double-figures for the Cyclones. Camuso also recorded six steals, six rebounds and four assists. Freshman Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) finished with 18 points, six rebounds, five steals, one assist and one block while junior Nikki VanTassel (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) recorded a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) came one point shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 12 rebounds. Centenary held Keystone to just 30.4 percent from the floor (24-of-79), including 29.7 percent in the second half (11-of-37). The first half featured five ties and five lead changes as the two teams went back-and-forth. Centenary fell behind early and trailed by as many as eight, 18-10, with 12:46 remaining in the stanza. But the Cyclones rallied and the two teams went into the locker rooms tied at 35 at the half. In the second half, however, Centenary got back on track. Camuso hit two free throws to start the period, part of an 8-0 run for the Cyclones to open the stanza. But Keystone rallied, coming within two at 48-46 with 13:53 remaining. After a free throw shot by the Giants brought them to within 52-49, Centenary went on a 16-0 run to take a commanding 68-49 lead. The home team would build its advantage to as much as 21 before winning by 16. Centenary next plays on Monday, Feb. 9, as part of a home double-header with Baptist Bible. Centenary Women’s Basketball Ranked Among Nation’s Leaders
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 5, 2009) – In the latest national Division III NCAA rankings, the Centenary women’s basketball team ranks first out of 409 schools in scoring, averaging 84.7 points per game. The Cyclones are second in three pointers per game (8.5), 13th in steals (13.9), 31st in scoring margin (15.4) and 37th in turnover margin (4.94). Centenary leads the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) in four statistical categories: scoring, scoring margin, turnover margin and three point field goals. The Cyclones are among the top five in many other categories, including free throw percentage (fourth, .662), field goal percentage (second, .403), field goal percentage defense (fourth, .358), three point percentage (third, .316), rebounding offense (third, 48.7), blocked shots (fifth, 2.61), assists (third, 15.67), steals (second, 13.89) and assist/turnover ratio (fourth, .73). Individually, three Cyclones are ranked among the nation’s leaders in four statistical categories, led by Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's by the Sea). The junior is first in scoring (22.5) and three pointers (3.9) and tied for 21st in steals (3.7). Sophomore Marissa Distasio (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) is 16th in rebounds (12.0) and freshman Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) is tied with Camuso in steals. In the CSAC’s latest rankings, Camuso is first in scoring and three pointers per game, fifth in free throw percentage (.797), tied for second in steals, sixth in three point percentage (.365) and fifth in minutes (34.33). Vasta is ninth in scoring (13.9), fifth in field goal percentage (.493), first in assists (4.5), tied for second in steals, fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.19) and tied for third in minutes played (34.39). Distasio is first in defensive rebounds (7.24), third in offensive rebounds (4.76) and third in overall rebounding. Freshman Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) is 12th in field goal percentage (.444) and 10th in steals (2.2). Fellow classmate Bridget McCann (Keyport, N.J./Keyport) ranks second in blocks (1.39) and sophomore Leah Murphy (Hamburg, N.Y./Mount Mercy Academy) is 15th in three pointers (1.17). The Cyclones (13-6, 8-3) return to action on Saturday, Feb. 7, when they face CSAC opponent Keystone (9-10, 4-7) at 1:00 p.m. as part of a double-header. Centenary Women Fall At Cabrini, 78-52RADNOR, PA (February 2, 2009) – In a matchup of the top two teams in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), the North leading Centenary women’s basketball team fell to the top team from the South, Cabrini, 78-52 at Nerney Field House in Radnor, Pa. Three players scored in double-figures for the Cyclones, led by junior guard Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea) who tallied 14 points. Centenary (13-6, 8-3) shot a season-low 29.8 percent (17-of-57) en route to its fourth loss in its last five games. Freshman Kristen Lehmann (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) shot four-of-six from the floor and finished with 13 points, while fellow classmate Jen Vasta (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) tallied 10 points and a team-high five assists. Cabrini (16-3, 11-0) remained the only unbeaten team in the CSAC. The Cyclones fell behind by 11 early in the first half, before an 11-3 run brought them within three points on a pair of Lehmann free throws, at 27-24, with 4:28 remaining in the stanza. But Cabrini was able to slow down its opponent, and went into halftime with a 34-28 advantage. A quick 7-0 run for the home squad gave them a 41-28 lead and they never looked back, leading by as many as 28 before winning by 26. (2/2/09) Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea) was selected this past week as the Colonial States Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Camuso had a record setting week for the Lady Cyclones setting a Centenary Record by scoring 49 points in a loss to Cedar Crest College as well as tying the Division III record for three point shots made in a game with 10. For the week Camuso averaged 32.3 points, three rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.3 steals going 7 for 8 from the line and netting 18 three pointers. The Lady Cyclones went 1-2 (1-1 CSAC) for the week. Lady Cyclones Stop Streak at Three With Win Over Rosemont
(1/31/09) In today’s women’s basketball matchup it was the Lady Cyclones who were able to defend their home court, taking control of the game in the final 25 minutes of the game, and beating the Rosemont Ramblers 79-57. This win improves Centenary to a record of 13-5 and makes them 8-2 in the CSAC Conference. For Rosemont, the loss drops their record to 3-14 while they remain winless in the CSAC at 0-8. In the first half it was clear that the Rosemont strategy was to try and slow the Lady Cyclones offense down the best they could, and managed to do so by walking the ball up the court. This slow down approach along with some cold shooting from Centenary allowed Rosemont to take an early lead of 12, at 25-13 with 7:00 minutes left in the half. From there however the Cyclones swung the momentum and game back in their favor. A free throw from Kristyn Lehmann (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) tied the score at 26 with three minutes left to play, and just one minute later the home team had a lead of seven. After two more three pointers from Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By the Sea) and lay-up to beat the half time buzzer by Jen Vasta (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) gave the Lady Cyclones the lead at the half, 43-26. In the second half, the Lady Cyclones continued to build on their lead. Leah Murphy (Hamburgh, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) opened up the half nailing two three pointers, the second one giving Centenary a 22 point lead. From there Rosemont was able to mount a little comeback, briefly cutting their deficit down to 16 when Heather Daneker hit a three pointer, and made the score 52-36 Cyclones, with 15:38 to play in the half. Both teams traded baskets for the next four minutes, but again Rosemont shortened the gap when they cut the lead to 14 after Rebecca Zimmerman hit a pair of free throws, and the Ramblers now trailed 61-47 with 10 minutes to play. The Lady Cyclones however remained on the attack, and were able to hit four more three pointers in the final 10 minutes of the half to close out Rosemont. The final score was 79-57 in favor of Centenary. Starring for the Lady Cyclones on this day was Camuso who finished with 19 points, four rebounds and two assists, and Murphy who ended up with 18 points, six rebounds and one steal while connecting on three three pointers. Coming off the bench to provide offense for Centenary was the guard tandem of Colleen Collins (Colmar, PA/Lansdale Catholic) and Lehmann who each finished 12 points, and combined for seven three pointers. For the Rosemont Ramblers, they were lead by Alesha Butler who finished the game with 15 points and one assist, and Adriann Demchenko who finished with five points, but was all over the glass with 16 rebounds, and also provided three blocks. (1/29/09) The Centenary Women’s basketball team scored a season high 101 points, unfortunately in a losing effort, as they fell to Cedar Crest College by the final of 111-104 in overtime on Thursday night. Centenary’s Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) set a Centenary Women’s Basketball single game scoring record in the loss, netting 49 points. Camuso connected on 10-of-23 three point attempts, to tie teammate Colleen Collins for the most three-pointers in a game this season among Division III NCAA players. The loss is the women’s third straight, second in the CSAC, after starting conference play a perfect 7-0. Centenary is now 12-5 overall, 7-2 in the CSAC, while Cedar Crest improves to 9-7, 4-4in the conference. In a first half that saw the host Falcons lead throughout, while shooting a blistering 48% from the floor, the Lady Cyclones managed to stay within striking distance thanks impart to an even better 53% from the field. Cedar Crest carried a 51-47 lead with them into the halftime break. In the second, they would push their advantage to as many as six on three different occasions. The Lady Cyclones however, managed to gain their first lead of the night at the 8:15 mark of the half (72-71). From there the lead changed hands four times, and a fifth when Colleen Collins connected on a three-pointer giving Centenary the 93-91 advantage with just a minute to go. Following a defensive stop by the Lady Cyclones who promptly were called for an offensive foul, Cedar Crest’s Lakeema Jones canned a three for the 94-93 lead. After two made free throws by the Falcons, the Centenary women had one last chance at sending the game into overtime. Freshman Collins did just that, burying her fourth three-pointer of the game, and forcing an extra period tied at 96-96. Unfortunately for Centenary the five minute extra period was not what they hoped for. The host Falcons outscored the visitor’s 15-8, as the Lady Cyclones connected on just 3-of-13 in overtime. The loss however did not overshadow the performance by Centenary junior Kristen Camuso who scored a career high 49 points, including the three-pointers. Camuso’s record setting output, was joined by teammate Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) who recorded another double-double with 10 points and 18 rebounds. Nikki Van Tassel (Franklin/Walkill Valley) and Colleen Collins (Colmar, PA/Lansdale Catholic) each added 12 points a piece. For Cedar Crest Kelly Oakes led the way scoring a team high 33 points and grabbing 21 boards, while teammate Liz Sunderhuas registered a triple-double scoring 16 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and handing out 10 assists. (1/26/09) Visiting Delaware Valley College, behind the scoring of Kim Vennera and Britteny Zimmerman, downed host Centenary College by the final of 83-77 earlier tonight. The loss is the second in a row for the Lady Cyclones, who now fall to 12-4 on the season, while the victory pushed DVC to 9-8 and above .500 for the first time since Jan. 10th. The host women jumped in front early 13-4, thanks to a cold start by the Aggies who opened just 1-for-8 from the field. From there the two teams settled in for an up tempo, half which seemed to fit both sides. Centenary’s lead stayed between four and eight points for the majority of the half until DVC’s Erin Boyer converted a pair of free throws at 3:12 mark to pull the visitor’s to within two 33-31. However Centenary would not allow them any closer, as they closed the half on a 9-2 run to hold a 42-33 advantage at halftime. Out of the lockeroom in the second, it was Delaware Valley who went to work offensively, outscoring the Lady Cyclones 20-11 in the first eight minutes. DVC’s lead remained three (55-52) at the 10:28 mark, before Centenary made their move. The women, using the play of Nikki Van Tassel (Franklin/Walkill Valley) and Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) surged back in front by as many as seven (64-57) with just under eight minutes to go. The Lady Cyclones used their fast break and physical defense, forcing 24 Aggie turnovers in the game, to get them back into to. Despite the home team run, DVC managed to keep the momentum, and regained the lead on a Jackie Shunkwiler lay-up with 6:54 on the clock. Unfortunately for Centenary the visitor’s never relinquished the lead again. They would convert a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line over the final four minutes, to take just their third road victory of the season. In the loss for Centenary, Camuso led all scorers with 29 points, with teammate Jen Vasta (Boonton/Boonton) adding 12 points and six assists. On the inside, Marisa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) and Van Tassel each recorded double-doubles. DiStasio scored 14 and grabbed 16 boards, while Van Tassel chipped in with 14 points and 14 rebounds. (1/24/09) In a match-up of conference unbeatens earlier this afternoon, the Centenary Women’s Basketball team fell to Gwynedd Mercy by the final of 84-69. Despite the loss which drops the Lady Cyclones to 12-3 overall, 7-1 in the CSAC, they still hold a two game advantage in the North Division standings. The Griffins improve to 12-3 on the year and remain undefeated at 6-0 in the conference. After falling behind by as many as 11 points in the opening five minutes the host Centenary women could have easily folded their tents on the afternoon, but they did nothing of the sort. The Lady Cyclones got on the board on a driving lay-up Jen Vasta (Boonton/Boonton) at 15:51 mark, and after spotting the visitor’s the games first 11 points. Following a few trips of trading baskets, the Griffins extended their advantage to 29-10 with just under nine minutes remaining. Again the hosts showed no signs of letting up as they stormed back over the final quarter of the period to draw within ten points (48-38) by the halftime break. Unfortunately for the Lady Cyclones the amount of effort spent to get themselves back into the game, caught up with them in the second half, along with some foul trouble. The women got as close as eight points two separate times (61-53, 63-55) in the half, but no closer. The Gwynedd Mercy women capitalized on 11 second half turnovers by Centenary, scoring 11 points off of them, in route to the 84-69 final. The offensive attack for Centenary was sparked by the play of freshman guard Jen Vasta and the Lady Cyclones pair of inside players, Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) and Bridget McCann (Keyport/Keyport). Vasta scored a team high 18 points to go along with five assists. DiStasio recorded her fifth double-double of the season scoring 17 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds. McCann added 11 points and five boards, while leading scorer Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) chipped in with 13. For GMC in the victory, guard Bridget Morrin led all scorers with 20 points, while three teammates added double figures. (1/22/09) Centenary freshman Colleen Collins (Colmar, PA/Lansdale Catholic) shot her way into the record books tonight, as she paced the Lady Cyclones to an 88-28 non-conference win over Trinity University (DC). Collins’ 30 points, on 10-for-23 shooting from the three point line, is a career high for the first year player. Her 10 made three-pointers is an NCAA Division III single-game best so far this winter. Collins jumps ahead of five other women’s players who have all connected on nine in one game this season. In addition to the individual high set in the contest, the Lady Cyclones as a team set a new NCAA single game high, knocking down 22 three’s as a team. Centenary shot 22-for-68 from behind the arc tonight, surpassing the previous single-game high of 16, set earlier this year by two other Division III schools. Women Cruise to Ninth Straight Behind Three Guard Attack
The Lady Cyclones opened a 27-8 advantage over the first ten minutes of the game, which was extended to as many as twenty (31-11) by the 8:01 mark. The visiting Crimson Eagles of PBU, crept their way back to only trail 38-26 at the half, thank impart to 15-7 run to close out the opening period. In the second stanza, Centenary’s defense proved to be the difference forcing 15 turnovers and scoring 18 points off of them. The Lady Cyclones pushed their cushion to twenty-one (61-40) with just over ten minutes remaining. The continual pressure combined with the 46% shooting from the floor in the period allowed Centenary the fortune of bringing home their fifth home victory of the year, and ninth in a row. In the win, Camuso led all scorers with 23 points, while Murphy added 18, including a game high five three-pointers. Vasta chipped in 18 of her own to go along with four assists and six steals. As for Philadelphia Biblical, the Crimson Eagles were paced by Summer Mullen who registered 22 points on 10-for-18 shooting and Dani Norton who scored 11 while grabbing nine rebounds. Boxscore
Camuso Again Named to CSAC Weekly Honor Roll(1/19/09) Centenary junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll for the second consecutive week on Monday, following a career week for the 5-6 guard. Camuso was the team's main offensive cog in their 3-0 week, and has been in their eight game winning streak. She capped off the Lady Cyclones perfect week, by scoring a career high 34 points on Saturday afternoon in a victory at Baptist Bible. She ended the week averaging 29.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Camuso Nets Career High as Lady Cyclones Stay Unbeaten(1/17/09) Centenary junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea) scored a career high 34 points, including seven three-pointers and the Women's Basketball team extended their winning streak to eight straight this afternoon with a 94-86 victory on the road at Baptist Bible College. The win also keeps the Lady Cyclones unbeaten in CSAC play this winter as they improve to 9-2 overall, 5-0 in the conference. Camuso's career day not only included the game high 34 points, but she also notched her second double-double of the season grabbing ten rebounds. She has now scored 20 or more points in the last four games for the Lady Cyclones and has now upped her season average to just over 22 points per game. The host Lady Defenders jumped in front 17-9 through the opening eight minutes of play. However, the Lady Cyclones fought back to tie the score with 7:30 remaining in the half. From there Centenary managed to build their momentum and hold an eight point advantage, 43-35, at the halftime break. In the second half, Centenary would push their lead to as many as 13, but Baptist Bible would climb back to within two points with just under 10 minutes left to play. Centenary continued their offensive attack, keeping the hosts at bay, eventually holding on for the eight point victory. Joining Camuso atop of the scoring column for the Lady Cyclones was Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg) with 18, Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) with 16, and Jen Vasta (Boonton/Boonton) with 15. (1/15/09) The Centenary Women's Basketball team continued their wining ways on Thursday evening, as they downed host Immaculata University by the final of 72-68, to improve to 9-2 overall and remain unbeaten in CSAC play. The Lady Cyclones fell behind by as many as 12 points halfway through the opening half of play, but were able to scrap their way back into the game only to trail 32-24 at the halftime break. Freshman Jen Vasta (Boonton/Boonton) scored eight of her 22 points in the half, to go along with Kristen Camuso's (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea) 6, to keep the visitor's within striking distance. Centenary opened the second half with a 13-5 run to pull within two points (39-37) with just over 13 minutes remaining. Over the next six-plus minutes, the two teams traded baskets and defensive stops as the host Macs kept the Lady Cyclones deficit between three and six points. Centenary took their first lead of the half (52-50) on lay up by Camuso at the 6:48 mark. From their the lead changed hands three more times until Colleen Collins (Colmar, PA/Lansdale Catholic) hit a 3-pointer for Centenary with 3:31 left in the contest to break a 57-57 tie and spark the Lady Cyclones on an 8-4 run over the next two minutes that was the deciding factor in the outcome of the game. Immaculata came within two points in the final 17 seconds, but could get no closer as Centenary hit all four of its foul shots down the stretch to ice the game. For the game Camuso led all scorers, totaling 26 points, while Vasta added 22 points and Marisa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) grabbed 15 rebounds. (1/12/09) In the first half of the women’s game it was Centenary, led by Kristen Camuso’s (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s By the Sea) five first half three pointers who jumped out to a lead, as it was 43-30 in favor of the Lady Cyclones going into the second half. Centenary held this lead until there was 4:45 left in the second half, when Neumann finally tied the game, doing so on a free throw by Caitlin Agnew. In the final minute of regulation it was Centenary who was down by four points, but were able to make the final two baskets of regulation, first a lay-up by Kristyn Lehmann (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) and then the tying jumper from Jen Vasta (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) with just 12 seconds left to force overtime. In overtime, there were just three baskets made the entire period. Krista DiRomauldo of Neumann sank a three pointer to give the home team a three point lead. Vasta then made a pair of lay-ups, the second coming with 54 seconds left giving the Lady Cyclones the lead 84-83. In the final two possessions, Neumann had two cracks at winning it, but Centenary was able to hold on defensively to secure the game, 84-83. In what was a great team win for Centenary, there were several individuals who had games. Leading the way was Camuso who finished with 29 points, three assists, and four rebounds. Right behind her was Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) who finished with 19 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Vasta, who made most of the key baskets down the stretch, finished the game with 14 points, one assist and two steals. Rounding out the efforts was Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) who finished with eight points, and 15 rebounds. Camuso Selected to CSAC Honor Roll
(1/12/09) Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's By the Sea) scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and three steals, and shot 41 percent from the floor, leading the Lady Cyclones to a 1-0 week in conference play. This earned Camuso a selection on the CSAC Honor Roll for the week ending in 1/11. This is the third time Camuso has received conference honors this season.
Vasta and Camuso Lead Cyclones to CSAC Win(1/10/09) Centenary College’s dynamic backcourt of Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) and Jen Vasta (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) was too much for the College of Notre Dame to handle, as the Lady Cyclones notched their third victory in the conference by a score of 74-63. In the first half it was Centenary who was coming off a long holiday lay off who set the pace early. Vasta began weaving her way through the defense for a pair of lay-ups early and midway through the first half Centenary held a 13 point advantage over the Gators. Some forced turnovers as well as a few three pointers later, and the College of Notre Dame was right back into the game. A three pointer from Briana Gap cut the Cyclone lead to 4 with three minutes to play in the half, before Centenary closed the half with a seven point lead at 38-31. In the second half it was both teams defense that didn’t allow either team to find their offensive groove. The press of Centenary forced the College of Notre Dame into turnovers while the College of Notre Dame’s zone defense made Centenary take contested shots. Midway through the half it was a one point game, the Lady Cyclones leading, 46-45. With Camuso and Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) both scoring 13 points in the half for the Lady Cyclones that would be as close as the Gators got however, as Centenary pulled away. The final score being Centenary 74, the College of Notre Dame 63. Centenary was led by leading scorer Camuso who finished the game with 21 points, six rebounds, and two assists. She was joined by backcourt mate Vasta who finished with 17 points, to go along with three assists and three steals. Ally was the third Lady Cyclone in double figures with 15 points and seven rebounds. For the Gators, they were led by Gloria Broady who finished with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists and Briana Gap who finished with 13 points including three long three pointers. Boxscore DiStasio Gets CSAC Honors(12/15/08) Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/ Norwich Free Academy) was selected to the CSAC Honor Roll. She recorded her third double-double of the season in the Lady Cyclone’s win over Penn State-Hazleton. The game marked her fourth in double-digit rebounds, grabbing 21 and besting her career-high by one. Women's Hoops Pushes Streak To Four(12/9/08) On Tuesday evening the Centenary Women’s basketball team extended their wining streak to four with an 81-56 non conference victory over Penn State-Hazelton. With the win, the Lady Cyclones head into the holiday break with an overall mark of 6-2, while remaining unbeaten in the CSAC at 2-0. The women opened up an 18-point cushion, 41-23, by the halftime break and never looked back. Centenary outscored the host Lady Lions 40-33 in the second period in route to their fourth consecutive win and second in a row by more than 15 points. During this streak the women have averaged just over 90 points per game, while allowing just 66 per night. (12/8/08) Centenary's Women Basketball Player Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's By The Sea) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 7th. Camuso recorded a game-high 27 points against Keystone College and 25 points against Marywood University and averaged six rebounds, two assists, and four steals per game. Shooting 54.3% from the floor, she led the Lady Cyclones to a perfect 2-0 week in conference play.
Centenary Guards Lead Women to Road Victory
(12/4/08) The Lady Cyclones two leading scorers did just that on Thursday evening, as Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea) and Jen Vasta (Boonton/Boonton) combined for 53 points in Centenary's 96-77 CSAC victory over Keystone College. The win is moves the women to 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference play. It also extends Centenary's winning streak to three straight. Centenary opened the game slowly falling behind by four points on two separate occasions through the opening nine minutes of play. However when Kristen Camuso connected on a three-pointer, giving the Lady Cyclones a 16-15 lead at the 10:25 mark, the visitor's would go on a 12-0 run over the next four and half minutes to hold a 25-15 advantage. The lead would then grow to 35-21 by the 2:35 mark, and eventually to the halftime cushion of 43-26. In the second half, the two teams would combine for over 50% shooting from the floor, while scoring more than 100 points for the period. Fortunately for the Lady Cyclones their offense would better the host Giants output by two points, never allowing the lead to drop below 14 points. The closest Keystone would get was with 2:14 left in the contest as Centenary held an 88-74 lead, ultimately holding on for the 96-77 road victory. Centenary was led by Camuso's 27 points, which included five three-pointers, two rebounds, and a pair of assists. Jen Vasta added 26 points of her own, two rebounds, and eight assists, while Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) chipped in with 13 points and eight boards. For Keystone in the loss, Ellen Fallon scored a game high 28 points, while teammate Jessica Kobesky recorded a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards. (12/1/08) Senior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) and freshman Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg) recorded double-doubles in the Lady Cyclones 83-69 victory over Marywood University earlier this evening. The victory improves Centenary to 4-2 overall, and gives them a conference opener win for the second consecutive year. The Lady Cyclones used tough defense to open a 42-29 lead at the break, and force 12 first half turnovers by the Pacers. The visitor’s were held to just above 35% from the floor and missed ten free throw opportunities, which all lead to the deficit at half. In the second Centenary added to their cushion, when a lay-up by Jen Vasta (Boonton/Boonton) extended it to 44-29. From there the Marywood women went an 18-9 run over the next seven minutes to pull to within six points of the lead. Unfortunately for the Pacers, that margin was as close as they would get, both then and at the 6:57 mark of the game. Execution and solid shooting from the free throw line down the stretch pushed the Lady Cyclones to their first CSAC win of the season by the eventual final of 83-69. (12/1/08) Colleen Collins (Colmar, PA/Lansdale Catholic) was named to the CSAC honor roll for week's performance. She scored 22 points including five three pointers in helping the Cyclones win 103-62 over Penn-State Harrisburg. This was Collins' first game in her collegiate career.

(11/25/08) Freshman Colleen Collins (Colmar, PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored a game high 22 points, including five three-pointers, as the host Lady Cyclones took care of business in a non-conference match up with Penn State-Harrisburg by the final of 103-62. Four other Centenary women joined Collins in double figures, as Centenary who opened a 63-36 cushion in the first half came away with their third victory of the season. In the victory, Collins’ 22 points paced the offense, while Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) scored 18, Leah Murphy (Hamburg, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) netted 16, and Jen Vasta (Booton/Booton) added 14 points and seven assists. Off the bench, Kristyn Lehmann (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) chipped in with 10 points. (11/23/08) In this weekend’s consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College, junior Nikki Van Tassel (Franklin/Walkill Valley) did her best to put the Lady Cyclones on her back and bring home a victory. Despite the team coming out on the short end of a 76-68 decision, Van Tassel did her part recording career highs of 21 points and 19 rebounds. Following their first loss of the season the night before, Centenary took to the floor on Sunday looking to continue their offensive output, unfortunately it was not there. The Lady Cyclones fell behind Wesley College early 16-11 through the first six minutes. Just as the first game, the women came charging back however to take a 20-19 lead with 11 minutes on the clock. Over the next nine minutes however Centenary’s shooting went cold, while Wesley did not. The Wolverines went on a 17-1 run over the stretch and built a 36-21 advantage with just three minutes to go in the half. Centenary was able to cut into the deficit before halftime and trailed 39-28 at the break. In the second half, the Centenary shooting came alive as they connected on 15-of-36 shots from the field in the half. The Lady Cyclones made yet another run at the lead, coming all the way back to lead by one at 59-58 with 6:34 left in the contest. Unfortunately for the women, the energy used to come back left nothing for themselves down the stretch. Following the brief lead change, Wesley ran off the next ten points and was able to hold on for the 76-68 victory in the afternoon’s first game. The loss drops Centenary to an even 2-2 in the early going, while Wesley found the season’s first win, improving to 1-2. (11/23/08) At the opening night of the Rinso Marquette Tournament, hosted by Lebanon Valley College, the Lady Cyclones fell to the host Dutchmen by the final of 87-69. Despite the loss, Centenary placed three players in double figures and had one record setting performance on the boards. The Lady Cyclones’ Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) scored six points, but grabbed a Rinso Marquette Tournament record 20 rebounds in the game. The unfortunate part was that DiStasio’s name only appeared on the top of the list for about two hours. In the night’s second game, Staten Island’s Megan Sullivan re-broke the record grabbing 24 in her team’s victory. As for Centenary’s scoring, junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) led the way netting 17 points, including three three-pointers. Leah Murphy (Hamburg, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) and Jen Vasta (Booton/Booton) added 15 and 14 respectively. The opening half was a see-saw battle between the two teams, as Lebanon Valley opened a commanding seven point half way through the period. Centenary then made their run coming all the way back to take their first lead of the half with just over six minutes to go. From there, the pair of teams traded baskets the advantage. The half ended on the eighth tie of the period, as the teams went the lockeroom knotted at 41. The host Dutchmen took control quickly in the second half, starting with a 7-0 run to push them in front 48-41. The Centenary women again fought back, pulling to within one point twice midway through the half. Ultimately it was the hot shooting of Lori Lidlow (24 pts.) and Eryn Schultz (19 pts.) that did the visitor’s in. By the five minute mark of the game, Leb Val had opened a 74-63 cushion and never allowed Centenary to get any closer, taking the opening round victory by the final of 87-69. (11/18/08) The Centenary Lady Cyclones opened their home schedule this evening by placing six players in double figures, as they rolled to a 100-33 victory over New York City Tech. The win improves the Centenary women to 2-0 in the early going, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-3. In an opening half that saw the host Lady Cyclones force 25 New York City Tech turnovers, while holding the Yellow Jackets to just 14 points on 6-for-26 shooting, the women built a 20-8 lead by the mid sway point. Centenary continued the defensive pressure and took a 51-14 advantage into the halftime break. In the second, Centenary added a nearly identical number on the scoreboard tallying 49 points in the half, while holding the visitor’s under twenty points again. On the night the women connected on 36-of-98 shots from the field, including seven three-pointers while cruising to the 100-33 final margin. (11/15/08) Junior Kristen Camuso (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph’s by the Sea) and sophomore Marissa DiStasio (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) led the Lady Cyclones to season opening 98-69 victory at Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon. Camuso scored a game 26 points, including six three-pointers, while DiStasio registered her first career double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Centenary broke the game open late in the first half and took a 53-29 lead into the halftime break, after shooting nearly 38% from the floor in the opening half, while forcing 18 Mountaineer turnovers. The Lady Cyclones continued the defensive pressure in the second half causing another nine turnovers by Southern Vermont and shooting an unconscious 44% from the field, including 3-for-7 from the 3-point line. The win marks the third straight season that Centenary as has opened the year with a victory. Lady Cyclones Chosen as Pre-Season Pick for North Division![]() Aston, Pa. – Gwynedd-Mercy College’s Women’s Basketball team was selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches’ poll. The 2007-2008 conference runner-up received eight (8) of the twelve possible first-place votes and earned 140 points in the poll. The 2007-08 Women’s Basketball conference champions, Cabrini College, earned three of the remaining first place votes, finishing second overall and in the CSAC South with 131 points in the poll. Neumann College rounded out the top three overall and in the South Division with 122 points and the final first place vote. “We are honored that the conference coaches selected us as the pre-season favorite,” said Gwynedd-Mercy head coach, Keith Mondillo. “After losing three starters from last year’s team, this was unexpected considering how strong many of the other programs in the CSAC are.” Immaculata University (95), College of Notre Dame (48) and Rosemont College (46) rounded out the voting in the CSAC South.
