2007 Season Outlook

The 2007 Centenary Women’s Volleyball team has a great mixture of returning experience and fresh, new talent that has second year Coach Dinu Dan looking forward to a turnaround season.  Coach Dan’s Lady Cyclones program returns six athletes from last season to the fall roster.  These returnees include, seniors Jamie Herold [OP/MB], team’s third leading hitter last year, and Jennifer Vail [MB], team’s leader in digs (223) and service aces (50).  Juniors Jolyn Veres [Setter], led Lady Cyclones in assists (411) and Dorothy Gasker [OH], who was third on the team in kills.  The sophomore class is led by Jenny Noto [OH] and Jen Curtis [MB], team’s second leading hitter last fall.  The addition of two fifth year seniors, Christina Boyer [MB/OH], second on the team in kills (127) in ’05, a 2nd Team All-Skyline Player in ’04, and the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in ’03; and Dairomy Bolano [OH], third leading hitter in ’04 and ’05, while being named a member of the All-Tournament Team at the NJAC/Skyline Challenge as a sophomore; should add even more depth to an already versatile team.  Boyer rejoins the team after not playing in ’06, while Bolano returns after a knee injury kept her off the court the entire season.  These leaders are enthusiastic about the year and have shown great promise and work-ethic in the off-season in preparing for what could be an extremely successful first year in the PAC (Pennsylvania Athletic Conference).

The other half the women’s combination is comprised of six incoming freshman, two first year players, and a transfer.  Freshmen Cara Gibson [OH], Elizabeth Luckenbill [MB], Kelly Zegarowitz [MB/OH], Angela Pereira [OH], Lauren Lynch [OH] and Kristin Bender [LIB] join junior transfer Victoria Rice [MB/OH], sophomore Lorraine Keller [OH] and senior Sarah Walsh [OH] to round Coach Dan’s 2007 squad.  Dan believes these incoming players will be a great asset to the women’s volleyball team and is looking forward to coaching them during the up coming season.

The Lady Cyclones 2007 schedule is one that will give the women a good test right from the start.  Centenary opens the year with three high level, two-day tournaments at Moravian College, Muhlenberg College, and the University of Scranton mixed in with one conference match versus Alvernia College.  From there the team jumps straight into a stretch of conference matches, acquainting themselves with future PAC opponents for the first time.  By the end of the opening month, Centenary will have already competed on 11 different dates and should have grasp of where they stand heading into the second half of the year.  The Centenary will close out 2007 with six conference match-ups that most likely will determine their appearance in the conference playoffs and what seed they will have earned.
