2006 Volleyball Preview

The 2006 season begins under the direction of first year Head Coach Dinu Dan.  Coach Dan accepted the coaching position in the late summer and has a very enthusiastic outlook to what this fall could be for the Lady Cyclones program. Following a 2005 campaign that saw the Centenary women finish 8-17 overall and seventh (2-6) in the Skyline, one spot out of the conference playoffs, the coaching change and a group of new faces has the volleyball team looking for fresh start.

According to Coach Dan, the team’s objective at Centenary will be to give the opportunity to the student-athletes to build up and create a successful Division III volleyball program.  The administration and our volleyball players are committed to turning around the women’s program here at Centenary College.  We are determined to make a difference in the school and the future of the volleyball program.  The team begins the new journey with a productive pre-season where our team members showed a great deal of dedication.  We are now creating a team nucleus that is based on reliable female volleyball players.  Everyone has worked hard towards the main goal, attempting to change the team’s outlook and approach to the game into a positive one.  Although there is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done in order to achieve the goal, the program has great potential to grow in the upcoming season and in the future.

The Centenary women return six players from a year ago, including three starters and their main libero player.  The lone senior returning for the Lady Cyclones is middle hitter Jen Vail.  Vail saw limited time last year, although statistically playing in 23 of the teams 25 matches.  She recorded 14 kills and 22 digs on the season.  Jamie Herold and Heather Domotor are two juniors who will bring much needed experience to the Cyclones front court this fall.  Domotor was second on team in kills last season with 151 (1.46 kpg), while Herold, the team’s only left-handed attacker, totaled 44 kills from the middle position.  The largest number of returning players comes for the sophomore class, where Coach Dan has his top assist player in setter Jolyn Veres, the team’s top defensive player, libero Tomomi Kise, and a talented outside hitter in Jennie Noto.
