A pair of Lady Cyclones were named to the list. Senior Victoria Rice (Corona del Mar, Calif./Corona del Mar) was named to the Conference Honorable Mention Team. Lady Cyclones Participate in "Dig Pink" for Breast Cancer AwarenessBRYN MAWR, Pa. (October 25, 2008) - The Centenary College volleyball team participated in a ‘Dig Pink’ event at their away match versus Rosemont College on Saturday, October 25th. The event was promoted to help raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Research. Rosemont raised $580.00 through pre-event fundraising, donations from fans, and raffles during the event. All proceeds will go to the Side-Out Foundation which started the Dig Pink Program to help raise money and support for breast cancer research. In addition, both Rosemont and Centenary showed their support by donning pink and white warm-up shirts. “It was a great event; both teams were engaged in various Dig Pink actions on Saturday, promoting breast cancer awareness," said head coach Dinu Dan. "There was a great deal of excitement, which included both teams and the coaches were wearing pink outfits. "I just want to thank the Rosemont College volleyball team and Coach Megan Whitman for the opportunity of sharing with us this very well organized event," he continued. “Rosemont raised a lot of money for the Side-Out Foundation and we were happy they asked us to participate. We hope to continue this event on our campus next season and possibly make it an annual event with Rosemont College.”
Women Close out Season With Sweep of RosemontBRYN MAWR, Pa. (October 25, 2008) - On Saturday the Centenary women's volleyball team closed out their 2008 season with a 3-0 sweep of Rosemont College. The win brings the Lady Cyclones final record to 10-22 overall, 2-9 in the CSAC. It also gave the women a two match winning streak since early September, when they tallied five consecutive victories. For the match, in which Centenary notched victories of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-15 senior Victoria Rice (Corona del Mar, Calif./Corona del Mar) and freshman Devon Paffendorf (Hackettstown, N.J./Mount Olive) led the way for Centenary, combining for 27 kills. Angelica Ruiz (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) totaled 32 assists and Kelsey Walter (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) registered 21 digs. Boxscore
Women Snap Losing Streak with Senior Night Victory
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (October 22, 2008) - Following their Senior Night celebration, the Lady Cyclones volleyball team continued the festive evening with a 3-1 victory over visiting Cedar Crest College. The win gave the Centenary women its first CSAC victory of the year, and ninth of the season. The hosts jumped on top early taking set #1 25-19, only to have the visiting Falcons even the match with a 25-20 win in set #2. With the match all square, the pair of team’s played the most exciting set of the night in the third. Centenary had the set under control leading on two separate occasions late, 21-17 and 23-21, only to have Cedar Crest tie the score 24-24. After an exchange of side outs, the Lady Cyclones notched back-to-back points for the 27-25 win, and the 2-1 set lead. Centenary closed out the night with largest margin of victory of the evening a 25-16 decision. For the match Centenary senior Victoria Rice (Corona del Mar, Calif./Corona del Mar) led all players with 17 kills, while fellow senior Jennie Noto (Colonia, N.J./Mother Seton Regional) registered 10 kills and eight digs. The Lady Cyclones’ Angelica Ruiz (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) recorded a match high 29 assists to go along with her 14 digs. For Cedar Crest in the loss Amanda Dombrowski totaled eight kills with Lauren Seale notching 21 assists and 17 digs. Boxscore
Women Fall In Straight Sets To Philadelphia BiblicalLANGHORNE, Pa. (October 18, 2008) - The Lady Cyclones took to the road on Saturday, looking for their elusive first conference victory. The outcome however went the way of the host Eagles of Philadelphia Biblical. The Lady Cyclones fell in straight sets (3-0) dropping them to 8-22 on the year, and 0-8 in the CSAC. As for Philadelphia Biblical, they remain perfect in conference at 8-0 with the win and 19-7 overall. For Centenary on the day, senior Victoria Rice (Corona del Mar, Calif./Corona del Mar) led the tea with five kills, while Angelica Ruiz (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) added 10 assists and Kelsey Walter (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) recorded 10 digs. Volleyball Goes 0-2 in Home Tri-MatchHACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (October 16, 2008) - Centenary women’s volleyball dropped a pair of matches by the same 3-0 scores in tonight’s tri-match versus Stevens and Central College (IA) In the opening match Centenary took on Stevens. Game one was played even until point number ten, when Stevens opened up the lead, which turned out to be too much for the Lady Cyclones to overcome. Stevens took set #1 25-13. Sets #2 and #3 were both played similarly, with the Ducks prevailing by the scores of 25-16 and 25-15. Victoria Rice (Corona Del Mar, Calif./Corona del Mar) led the Cyclones with ten kills while the Ducks were lead by Bethany Rankie with seven kills. In the night’s finale hosted the Central College Dutch. This match unfortunately again went the way of the visitor, as Central won three straight sets (25-10, 25-9, 25-17) to take the match. For the match against Central, leading the way for the Lady Cyclones was Devon Paffendorf (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) who had four kills, as Angelica Ruiz (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) came away with 11 assists, an ace and two digs. For the Dutch, Michelle Ripperger had eight kills. Over the two matches Paffendorf and Rice had 11 kills and 13 kills respectively. Ruiz had a big night with 31 total assists and seven digs. The pair losses on the evening drop Centenary to an overall record to 8-21. The middle match of the night went the way of the Stevens Ducks, as they downed Central College by the final of 3-1.
Women Drop Non-Conference Match 3-2 to MSMC
NEWBURGH, N.Y. (October 14, 2008) - On Tuesday night, the Centenary volleyball team dropped another hard fought five set match, this time to out-of-conference foe Mount Saint Mary College. The loss extends the Lady Cyclones losing streak to seven, and drops their overall record this fall to 8-19. As for MSMC, the victory moves them to 8-14 on the year. After dropping the opening set 25-19, the Lady Cyclones came right back to even the match, gaining the victory 25-23 in the second set. In the back-and-forth momentum of the night, Centenary fell 25-20 in the next only again to pull even with a 25-22 win in the fourth set. The women who have now gone 3-4 in five-set matches this year were unable to make it two straight set victories and fell 15-11 in the final deciding fifth set. Despite the loss, Centenary’s Devon Paffendporf (Hackettstown, N.J./Mount Olive) registered 19 kills and 15 digs, while Kelly Zegarowitz (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) added 17 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Angelica Ruiz (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) totaled 25 assists and eight aces. For Mount Saint Mary Courtney Kenney paced the Knights with 17 kills and 14 digs, as Katie Toole recorded 24 assists and Teresa Sorrentino added eight kills and 14 digs. Boxscore
Ruiz Gets Named to the CSAC Honor Roll
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (October 13, 2008) - Freshman Angelica Ruiz (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) was named to the CSAC Honor Roll for the week ending on 10/12. She had averages of 7.17 assists and 1.67 digs. The Cyclones were 0-3 on the week and now sit at 8-18 for the season.
