Lady Cyclones Split with St. Elizabeth.

(04/17/06) Madison, NJ --- The Centenary team traveled to Madison, NJ on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader with the College of St. Elizabeth.  In game 1 the Lady Cyclones jumped out to an early lead scoring six times in the top of the second inning.  Freshman Jenna Wendolowski lead of the second with her first homerun of the season tying the at 1-1.  From there Centenary scored a run on a CSE fielding error, an RBI groundout by Jolyn Veres, and an RBI single by Megan Doucette.  The final three runs came on the second homer of the inning, this one off the bat of Jessa Jones, which brought in Lauren Casoff and Doucette.  The big inning was enough for Centenary starter Michelle Hendry who went all seven innings, allowing just two runs while scattering 11 hits.  Hendry also struck out two while walking no one.

Game 2 proved to be a different scenario for the Lady Cyclones.  Once again the Centenary women fell behind at the start, this time trailing 3-1 through three innings.  In the fourth, the visitors again used a big inning to push in their favor.  A leadoff double by Megan Doucette, followed by back-to-back singles from Michelle Henderson and Heather Rolandelli brought Centenary to within a run.  Laura Kymer then cleared the bases with a one-out double and later scored on a single by Jolyn Veres, giving the Lady Cyclones a 5-3 advantage.  This time however the cushion was not enough as CSE turned around and put three runs of their own on the board in the bottom of the inning, taking the lead back 6-5.  The host Eagles would tack on one insurance run in the fifth, en route to the 7-5 victory over the Lady Cyclones.

In the two games for Centenary Laura Kymer went 3-for-8, with a double, a triple, three RBI's and three runs scored.  Teammate Jessa Jones was 3-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI's, while Michelle Henderson went 3-for-7 with a run scored.  Pitcher Michelle Hendry improved to 8-8 with the victory in the first game, while the team goes to 10-15 overall with the split.

Kean's Strong Pitching Downs Centenary in D.H.

(04/06/06) Hillside, NJ --- Strong pitching by Maryelise Gierke (Glen Gardner, N.J.) and a solo home run by Michelle Baiera (East Brunswick, N.J) keyed Kean University to an 8-0, six-inning victory over Centenary College in non-league softball action this afternoon at Kean.

Jasmyne Vargas (Carteret, N.J.) scored on a sacrifice fly by Johanna Hedler (South Plainfield, N.J.) in the bottom of the third inning, before Jesse Buchanan (Wallington, N.J.) scored on a single to left field by Chrissy DeCorso (South River, N.J.) to make it 2-0.

In the sixth, after Katy McManus (Edison, N.J.) raced home on a passed ball, Baiera homered to left-center field, just beyond the reach of Centenary leftfielder Stephanie Bickell (Brick, N.J.), to extend the Cougar lead to 4-0. Buchanan added an RBI double four batters later, before a Hedler double to left brought in two more runners, making it 7-0. Hedler then scored on a DeCorso single to end the game at 8-0.

The next inning, Hedler, who scored on the Schultz blast, scored again on a play at the plate after a grounder by Chrissy DeCorso (South River, N.J.), to make it 6-0.
Hennings helped her own cause in the fifth, doubling to left-center field, before stealing second. She scored two batters later on a short bloop single just over the first-base bag by Hedler, who was then driven in on a deep double by DeCorso to end the game at 8-0.

Lady Cyclones Drop Both Games to FDU-Florham.

(03/29/06) Hackettstown, NJ --- The Centenary Softball team dropped two games this afternoon to the visiting Devils of FDU-Florham, losing 3-0 in the opener and then 11-5 in the night cap.

In the afternoon's first game, FDU's Julie Hartnett (Riverton, NJ / Palmyra) held the Centenary bats in check allowing only five hits over the seven innings.  The Lady Cyclones could never seem to get the big hit when they needed it, leaving one or more runners on base in four different innings.  As for the FDU offense Kelly Nover (Lindenhurst, NJ/Lindenhurst) did the damage recording three hits, driving in one, and stealing a base.  Teammate Kristen Olah (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) also chipped in two hits and a run scored for the Devils.

In game two both teams scored early as the visiting Devils took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning, on a sacrifice fly by Kelly Nover.  Centenary's offense again went silent until the bottom of the fifth when the Lady Cyclones broke out scoring four times.  Megan Doucette (Mayetta / Southern Regional) and Lauren Casoff (Manahawkin / Southern Regional) highlighted the inning with RBI doubles, to go along with a run scoring single by Michelle Henderson (Lakewood / Lakewood) which drove in Doucette.  Heading into the top of the sixth Centenary held a commanding 5-2 lead.  The margin stayed that way into the top of the last frame, when the visiting Devils hit their way to an 11-5 victory.  FDU banged out nine hits and scored nine runs in the inning, including three straight run scoring doubles by Jenn Haas (Waterford, NJ/Hammonton), Amanda Morrison (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Jess Mantz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North).

In the second game, Centenary pulled out the 4-3 win at the end of the sixth inning due to the game being called for darkness.  The lady Cyclones came out swinging scoring a run in the first inning on a single to left field by Megan Doucette (Mayetta / Southern Regional).  NJCU came back fighting as they scored three runs in the second inning to be ahead 3-1.  The lady Knights would single off three hits as they capitalized on the three errors made by the Centenary defense.
