Cyclones Drop Season Finale 15-9 to York College.

(4/24/06) Hackettstown, NJ --- Centenary's Men's Lacrosse team dropped their final regular season game earlier today by the final of 15-9, to the visiting Spartans of York College (PA).

The afternoon began with both teams scoring early goals, as York took the early 5-3 advantage after one quarter.  In the second, the visiting Spartans added five more goals, while their defense tightened up and held the Cyclones to just one.  By the halftime intermission the Spartans had built a 10-4 cushion and never allowed Centenary back into it.  The Cyclones made a few small rallies, attempting to get back in to the game but York always seemed to have an answer for every Centenary score.

When the Cyclones Ryan Loomis (Bridgewater/Bridgewater) scored his lone goal of the day with 12:25 remaining in the third quarter the led was trimmed to 11-5.  With Centenary hoping to start a run, the Spartans proceeded to the next two goals pushing the margin to 13-5.  Despite a late third quarter goal by CC's Ryan Mangold (Hillsborough/Hillsborough), York led 13-6 with the final 15 minutes left.  The home team was able to net three unassisted goals in the closing three minutes, but it was not enough as York came away with the 15-9 road victory, improving themselves to 11-5 on the season.  The loss gives the Cyclones a final record of 5-8 overall in 2006.

In the win for York, Ben Libertini (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) led all scorers with three goals and four assists.  Adam Cross (Westminster, MD/Westminster) added six goals, while Brendan Hopkins (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) and Josh Papsen (Baltimore, MD/North County) each chipped in with three points respectively.  As for Centenary,  Nate Small (Great Mills, MD/Leonardtown) scored three goals, while adding one assist.  Eric Dechert (Avalon / Middle Twp.) scored two goals, while Nick Pielmeier (La Plata, MD/Chopticon), Nick Csenteri (Columbus / NBC), Loomis, and Mangold tallied one each.

Cyclones Pick up First Skyline Victory, 13-6 Over Manhattanville.

(04/15/06) --- On Saturday afternoon the Centenary Men's Lacrosse team downed Manhattan Ville 13-6 for the teams first conference victory.  The win also improved the team to 5-6 overall on the year.

The host Valiant opened the game with a goal in the first three minutes, but the Cyclones came right back to of their own for an early 2-1 lead.  The next four goals were all be Manhattanville, and the homes team led 5-2 with just over 10 remaining in the opening half.  The Cyclones then went on a scoring string of their own, running off six unanswered scores before the half. The Centenary lead stood at 8-5 as both teams headed into the halftime break.

Centenary's Ryan Loomis opened the second half with back-to-back goals, pushing the Cyclones advantage to 10-5 with 9:27 showing on the third quarter clock.  Manhattanville tallied there only score of the second half minutes later, however the Centenary offensive ball control silenced any opportunity of a Valiant comeback.  Centenary's defense held Manhattanville to just one goal, thanks in part to eight second half saves by senior goalie Ryan Seickel.  Seickel ended the day with a total of 11 saves, along with his team's fifth victory.  Offensively for Centenary, Loomis and Matt Rogers led all scorers with three goals each, while Rogers added an assist.  Centenary's leading scorer Nate Small also chipped in with two goals and two assists, while Nick Csenteri and Eric Dechert netted two each.

Centenary Falls to Visiting Rams 12-6.

(03/30/06) Hackettstown, NJ --- Earlier today the Centenary Men's Lacrosse team dropped a Knickerbocker Conference game 12-6, to visiting Farmingdale State.

In the games opening quarter it looked like it was going to be Centenary's day, as the Cyclones jumped out to a 4-2 advantage.  The Cyclones Ryan Loomis (Bridgewater/Bridgewater) tallied both of his goals in the first 15-minutes of play, putting the home team ahead by the two-goal cushion.  Unfortunately from there the Cyclones offense went silent as the Rams defensive pressure combined with a strong face-off, which won 14 of the games 21 starts, did not allow another Centenary goal until the two-minute mark of the third quarter.

Over that time frame Farmingdale was able to regain the lead 5-4, on a goal by Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) with just two minutes to go in the half.  The Rams tacked on one more in the final minute, to hold a 6-4 advantage at the halftime break.  The second half proved to be more of the same, as Farmingdale kept control of the ball and made the Cyclones play from behind.  By the time the Cyclones Matt Rogers (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) scored their fifth goal at the 2:02 mark of the third period, Farmingdale was already up 10-5.  The two teams combined for three scores over the final 15 minutes, as the Rams notched their fourth victory of the season.

Farmingdale was led by LaFlare and Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) who each scored four goals.  Goohs also added an assist for game high total of five points.  Rams' goalie Chris Hardgrove (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) made eight saves in the win.  For Centenary Loomis scored twice, while teammates Eric Dechert (Avalon/Middle Twp.), Matt Rogers, Nick Csenteri (Columbus/NBC) and Ryan Mangold (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) each added one.

Centenary Defeats Eastern University, 8-2.

(03/18/06) --- The Eastern University Eagles returned home after a tough road loss on Friday night to take on the Cyclones of Centenary in an early afternoon game on Saturday. The Eagles jumped to an early 2-0 lead but could not make the advantage hold as the visiting Cyclones put away 4 man advantage goals to win 8-2.

The Eagles jumped to their first lead of the young season when first year attack Michael Ryan scored off a nice pass from senior Ryan Hamidi. Jimmy Caiola closed out the opening quarter with arush at goal and a nice shot to the lower right corner of the goal.

The visiting Cyclones took advantage of a man up opportunity to halve the Eastern advantage when Ryan Loomis scored the first of his three goals on the day just over four minutes into the second quarter. The Cyclones tied the game before half on Eric Dechert's only goal of the match.

The opening minutes of the third frame proved to be some of the most exciting of the match as the Eagles took several shots from in close and hit the right upright on a chance with the score level. Shortly after that chance, an Eastern penalty gave the visitors another chance, and Nick Pielmeier put that chance away.

The Cyclones scored twice more in the third including another Loomis goal on a delayed penalty call. The Eagles were unable to get things going in the fourth as every possession seemed to end with a turnover and a man down situation. The Cyclones scored two man advantage goals in the closing frame and were able to dominate possession against an Eagle team that looked as though their legs were gone.

The Eagles (0-4), who have not had any favors from the schedule thus far and will not get any on Monday, return to the road to take on a nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan squad.

The Cyclones did manage to take a 6-5 lead after three quarters on goal by Ryan Loomis (Bridgewater/ Bridgewater) with 3:47 on the clock.  The hosts then appeared to take control of the game, scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter.  Centenary led 8-5 with just under ten minutes left in the game.  Following the eighth Centenary goal, the Hawks' Tyler Beeson (Downingtown, PA/ Downingtown) and Steve Caramello (Duxbury, MA/ Duxbury) notched back-to-back goal to quickly put Hartwick back into the game.
