![]() PAC Announces End of Season Awards, Three Lady Cyclones RecognizedCentenary's Women's Lacrosse team was recognized earlier this month when Ovaskainen finished the season third on the team in goals scored (31), tied for third in points (44), and tops in both draw controls (44) and ground balls (84). Kiti lead all of Division III in total groundballs for the season, as well as leading the conference, grabbing just over six per contests. Becker was the team leader in all three offensive categories goals (44), assists (15), and points (56). She finished third on the team in groundballs (33) and fourth in draw controls (21).....In 2007 Nicole was named a USAA Academic All-American for her excellence in the classroom as well. D'Allesandro who chosen as Centenary's member of the Sportsmanship team, was the LAdy Cyclones top defensive player and last year as a sophomore was named a 2nd Team All-Skyline Conference defensive player. Click Here for Entire List of Women's Lacrosse Awards Lady Cyclone's Season Comes to a Close with a Loss to Notre Dame(4/27/08) - This past Saturday the Centenary women’s lacrosse team traveled down to Baltimore to take on the College of Notre Dame in the first round of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Playoffs. The women were able to come back from an 8-3 halftime deficit to take the lead but could not hold on as Notre Dame scored three goals in the closing minutes to defeat the Lady Cyclones 12-11. Sophomore Megan Mars (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) led the Lady Cyclones with four goals while seniors Nicole Becker (Randolph/Randolph) and Lauren Feldman (Sicklerville/Washington Twp.) both found the net three times. Also tallyng points for the Lady Cyclones were LaToya Day (Keansburk/Red Bank) who netted one goal and Kiti Ovaskainen (Helsinki, Finland/Vaskeineoreo Lukio) who recorded three assists. For Notre Dame, Tina Money led with four goals and tewo assists while Anne Shippen netted three and notched an assist. Lauren Terry found the net twice for the Gators and three other players tallied a goal apiece. In net, senior Clare Johnson ( Morristown/Morristown) made 16 saves for the Lady Cyclones while Amanda Arkwright made three for the Gators. The Lady Cyclones ended the season with an overall record of 7-7 and 5-5 in PAC Conference play. Lady Cyclones Earn 5th Seed in PAC Playoffs(04/24/08) - This weekend the fifth seeded Centenary women’s lacrosse team heads down to Maryland to take of the number three seed College of Notre Dame. (4/21/08) – After being down by four at the intermission the Lady Cyclones rallied in the second half to defeat visiting Misericordia 16-13 in their final regular season game. Sophomore Megan Mars (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and junior Michelle Garone (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) paced the women with four goals each. Centenary trailed 9-5 at the conclusion of the first half despite the women taking a two point lead early into play off of two goals by Mars and a goal by Nicole Becker (Randolph/Randolph). The Cougars ended the half scoring seven goals to Centenary’s one to gain the advantage. Centenary was out shot by Misericordia 21-19 in the first half and picked up three more ground balls. The first two goals of the second period belonged to Misericordia but a Mars’s third goal of the day sparked a five goal run that would redeem the Lady Cyclones. The women would eventually score 11 total goals in the time left in the second half. Misericordia was able to two more on the board as well to finish the game with a score of 16-13 Scoring the goal to knot the game up at 12 as well as the game winner was senior Lauren Feldman (Sicklerville/Washington Twp.) who received a great pass from sophomore Kiti Ovaskainen (Helsinki, Finland/Vaskeineoreo Lukio). Five Lady Cyclones would notch goals. Mars and Garone led the way with four apiece while Feldman and Becker both added hat tricks. Ovaskainen rounded out the women’s scoring with two goals and two assists. In net, senior Clare Johnson (Morristown/Morristown) made sixteen saves and came up on a few big shots in the last few minutes to keep Centenary in the lead. Cougar’s keepers Allison Hoffer and Heather Heun combined to make ten total saves. The women’s record now stands at 7-5 overall and 5-5 in the PAC Conference while Misericordia drops to 6-8 and 4-5 in the PAC. The Lady Cyclones now wait for the rest of the conference to finish play to see if they have earned a bid into the conference playoffs that begin this weekend. (4/17/08) – Today on Cyclone Field the Centenary women’s lacrosse team hosted visiting Eastern University. Despite the beautiful sunny day the Lady Cyclones were disappointed by a 18-9 loss to their PAC opponent. This defeat takes the women back to .500 in the conference with a record of 4-4 while falling to 6-4 overall. Eastern improves to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The game got off to a slow start but the Eagles would get on the board first just under eight minutes in to play. Erin Reimel would follow up with a goal from a free position shot only a minute later. Centenary countered with two goals of their own scored by Michelle Garone (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) and Kiti Ovaskainen (Helsinki, Finland/Vaskeineoreo/Lukio) to tie the game up at two all. Eastern then scored six goals to Centenary’s one to finish off the half with a score of 8-3. The first four goals of the second half also belonged to Eastern as the Lady Cyclones saw their deficit increase to nine. Garone and Ovaskainen netted two more with about 20 minutes left. The two teams then went back and forth scoring two goals at a time for the next ten minutes. Senior Nicole Becker (Randolph/Randolph) and Ovaskainen scored the last two goals for the Lady Cyclones but their efforts were foiled as the Eagles scored four more before the end of the game. The Lady Cyclones picked up more ground balls than Eastern but they turned the ball over twice as much. Becker and Ovaskainen both found the net three time to lead the team while Garone and Megan Mars (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) scored two and one respectively. For Eastern, Reimel scored five goals to pace the team while Grace Griffith and Katie Choquette netted three apiece. In net both Centenary’s Clare Johnson (Morristown/Morristown) and the Eagle’s Kimberly Campbell made 13 saves. The Lady Cyclones are back at home to take on the College of Notre Dame in their senior game on Cyclone Field this Saturday, April 19th at 1:00pm. (4/15/08) – The Centenary women’s lacrosse team defeated Cedar Crest College 20-8 on Monday on a PAC Conference game. The women now stand at 4-2 in the conference and 6-3 overall while Cedar Crest dropped to 1-7 in the PAC and 1-11 overall. The Lady Cyclones began the game with an eight goal run until Cedar Crest got on the board. A goal by Kiti Ovaskainen (Helsinki, Finland/Vaskeineoreo Lukio) started the women on a four goal streak that lasted until just under two minutes in the first period. Cedar Crest was able to net three goals in the short time before the half. The beginning of the second half looked much like the first as the Lady Cyclones scored five unanswered goals, three of which came from Lauren Feldman (Sicklerville/Washington Twp.), who would eventually lead the team with five. The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the game with Centenary’s last goal coming from Clare Johnson (Morristown/Morristown) who had played goalkeeper for the majority of the game. Along with Feldman’s five, both Nicole Becker (Randolph/Randolph) and Megan Mars (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) notched four goals with Becker tallying four assists as well. Ovaskainen and Michelle Garone (West Hempstead, NY/West Hemstead) netted three and two goals respectively. Cedar Crest was led by Brittany Symbol, who notched three goals on the day while Mackenzie Lee followed closely behind with two. The Lady Cyclones are back at home this Thursday, April 17th to take on Eastern University at 4:00pm. Boxscore Women's Lacrosse Falls to the Griffins in a Tale of Two Halves(4/13/08) - This past weekend the Centenary women's lacrosse team was hosted by PAC opponent Gywnedd Mercy. Despite a well played second half, the Lady Cyclones fell to the Griffins 15-9. The women dug themselves a hole in the first half scoring only three goals to Gywnedd Mercy’s nine. Centenary was outshot by the Griffins 24-7 and twice allowed the Griffins to go on a four goal scoring run that gave them the advantage at the break. Second Half Run Carries Cabrini Over Lady Cyclones 17-5(4/8/08) – The Centenary women’s lacrosse team took the field today to match-up against visiting PAC opponent Cabrini College. Unfortunately for the Lady Cyclones, Cabrini was able to continue their unbeaten streak in the conference, defeating women 17-5. The loss takes Centenary to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the PAC while Cabrini improves to 7-1 and 6-0. Cabrini netted three quick goals to gain an early advantage over the Lady Cyclones only five minutes into the game. An unassisted goal by Michelle Garone (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) got Centenary on the board three minutes later however, the Cavaliers would record two more to increase their lead to four. A free position shot by Kiti Ovaskainen (Helsinki, Finland/Vaskeineoreo Lukio) scored and an unassisted goal by Megan Mars (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) helped the Lady Cyclones close the gap a little until Erin Nollen found the back of the net for her second and third goals of the game. The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the first half and the score stood at 9-5 as the halftime buzzer sounded. The women were held scoreless in the second half while senior goalkeeper Clare Johnson (Morristown/Morristown) got more than her share of the action, making 13 saves in that period alone. She grabbed a total of 25 throughout the match. Despite her superb play, the Cavaliers were able to record eight more before the end of the game and beating Centenary by twelve. Nollen led for Cabrini with six goals and one assist while teammate Katelyn Penrose netted four and also recorded an assist. Kate Schmid tallied 18 saves in goal for the Cavaliers. (4/5/08) – On this sunny Saturday afternoon the Centenary women’s lacrosse team hosted visiting Immaculata University on Cyclone Field. The women took control of the game early and never looked back, emerging victorious by a score of 19-4 in this PAC Conference match-up. Centenary got on the board first as Kiti Ovaskainen (Helsinki, Finland/Vaskeineoreo Lukio) scored an unassisted goal in the first minute of play. The women proceeded to build a seven goal lead until Immaculata’s Claire Lichty found the back of the net for the first time in the 15th minute. Nicole Becker’s (Randolph/Randolph) retaliated two minutes later off of an assists from Megan Mars (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and then Mars hit a goal of her own just over a minute after that. The Mac’s would score one more before the end of the half but Centenary countered with four to make the score 13-2 going into the break. The first goal of the second period belonged to Centenary as Michelle Garone (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) snuck a ball she received from Ovaskainen, past Immaculata’s keeper Melanie Suarez. Becker recorded another goal soon after, but the Mac’s would come back with two goals by Rebecca Whiteman in the 9th and 13th minutes. From this point on, the play would be all Centenary as they tallied four more goals before the final whistle blew to make the score 19-4. Leading for the Lady Cyclones was Mars who totaled six goals and two assists but she was followed closely behind by teammate Lauren Feldman (Sicklerville/Washington Twp.) who netted five and also had two assists. Becker and Garone both recorded three apiece while Ovaskainen put in two. Senior goalkeeper Clare Johnson (Morristown/Morristown) made 15 saves for the women. The Mac’s were led by Whiteman who scored three goals while Suarez made three saves in net. This win improves the Lady Cyclones record to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play while Immaculata drops to 1-5 and 1-4 in the PAC. Centenary is back in action Tuesday April 8th on Cyclone Field. The women will take on Cabrini College in another PAC conference at 4:00pm. Boxscore Lady Cyclones Fall to Moravian 21-6(4/3/08) - The Centenary women’s lacrosse team played host to visiting Moravian College this afternoon. Both the Lady Cyclones and the Greyhounds came into this game looking to extend their three game winning streaks but Moravian came out on top, winning by a score of 21-6. The first half began with Moravian scoring first but two quick goals by Megan Mars (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and Lauren Feldman (Sicklerville/Washington Twp.) put the Lady Cyclones out in front. The Greyhounds countered with four goals in a row to gain a 5-2 advantage. The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the half and the whistle blew with Centenary carrying a three goal deficit. The Lady Cyclones Nicole Becker’s (Randolph/Randolph) recorded the first goal of the second half to close the gap to two with a score of 7-5. The Greyhounds felt the pressure and responded with a vengeance netting nine straight goals to take a 16-5 lead. Mars would find the net one more time for the Lady Cyclones with less than eight on the clock but this was the last goal the women could muster as Moravian would score five more before the final buzzer. The Lady Cyclones were led in scoring by Becker who tallied three goals in the match while Mars and Feldman netted two and one respectively. Senior goalkeeper Clare Johnson (Morristown/Morristown) made 14 saves in net for Centenary. For the Greyhounds, eight different players scored with Lynda Kauffman leading the charge with five. Kauffman was followed closely behind by Erica Spatz who notched four. Both Paige Warbrick and Casey Simpson found the net three times apiece while goalkeeper Courtney Rosenberg grabbed 13 for Moravian.
