Lackland Center - Construction Updates

Announcement: October 13, 2009.

Progress on the new building is moving along well.  As you have seen over the past several weeks, the brick and limestone is being installed all around the exterior of the building.  The upper walls of the theater area and the walls by the service entrances to the building are receiving a stucco system similar to what we have on the Littell Technology Center.

On the interior, the mechanical systems continue to be installed in both the ceiling and wall areas.  Sheet rocking of the walls in the new kitchen and dining areas has begun.  The kitchen hoods and pizza oven have been installed.  The catwalk and ductwork in the ceiling of the theater area are being installed currently.

Over the next couple of weeks the goal will be to complete the masonry work, install the aluminum frames and glass at the large window areas, continue sheet rocking the interior walls and soffits.  Getting the building enclosed will allow for all the finish work to begin and continue throughout the winter months.

Announcement: May 21, 2009.

Please be advised that there will be a power shutdown on Wednesday, May 27 so that electrical service work for the Lackland Center can be completed.  We expect to turn the power back on Thursday, May 28 after the local electrical inspector has inspected the work.  The following buildings will be impacted:

Brotherton
Reeves Gym
Library

Anderson

You will also seesome preparation work that will happen on Tuesday, May 26 near Reeves Dorm so that this electrical work can be completed as quickly as possible.  We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.  Thank you.

Announcement: May 6, 2009.

The structural steel work for the new building is nearing completion. The concrete planking work on the 2nd floor is basically done except for the final top coat of concrete. The concrete floor for the new kitchen and dining area has been poured. The concrete flooring adjacent to the new theater as well as the 2nd floor concrete topping, will be poured within the next week. During the next couple of weeks, the excavation work and form work for the new theater area will take place.

Now that some of the concrete flooring has been placed, the carpenters have arrived on site to start framing the exterior walls and roof parapets at the kitchen area.

The plumbers and electricians continue to work on underground piping and wiring.  Once the metal decking is completed, the roof drains will be set as well as the HVAC equipment curbs.  The rubber roofing work will begin once the roof drains, equipment curbs and roof framing are completed.  Shortly after the exterior wall sheathing is installed, the masons will arrive on site and they will begin installing the brick and limestone that will makeup the exterior of the building.

As always, thanks for all your continued patience and cooperation during the construction process.

Announcement: February  13, 2009.

Dear Campus Community;

The concrete footing and foundation work for the Lackland Center has been progressing and is nearing completion.  The new water main work has been completed, tested and inspected.  The plumbing contractor has begun the underground piping for the new kitchen area.  The 1st steel delivery is expected to leave the steel mill today and should arrive here on either Monday, February 16, 2009 or Tuesday, February 17, 2009.  The crane to lift and install the steel is expected to be at the site on Tuesday, February 17, 2009.  You should start to see steel being set in place by the middle of next week.  We expect the steel work to last approximately six weeks and could take longer depending on what weather we experience over the next several weeks.

As always, thanks for all your continued patience and cooperation during the construction process.

Announcement: December  23, 2008.

Progress on the Lackland Center has been challenging with the rain, snow and cold temperatures we have experienced recently.  The contractor has continued installing footing and foundation work for the new building, installation of a new gas main, installation of storm water piping and installation of a new water main.  Recently, the underground storm water detention basin, concrete curbing and the base coat of paving operations were completed at the new parking lot area for the Lackland Center.  The goal is to try and have the footing and foundations complete by the end of January or early February so that the structural steel can be delivered and installed.

Starting December 29, 2008 through December 31, 2008 the contractor will be installing the new water main piping in Plane Street and through the Anderson parking lot.  Weather permitting, the water line will be installed, backfilled and the pavement patched.  You might see the street and the parking lot area backfilled with only stone if the weather becomes problematic. As always, thanks for your anticipated cooperation and patience during the construction process. I wish everyone a happy holiday season and a great New Year.

- Todd K. Miller, Director of Physical Environment Planning & Construction.

Announcement: November 6, 2008.

Dear Neighbor:

As you look at the Centenary campus, you can see that the David and Carol Lackland Center project is underway.  This is an exciting undertaking for the College.  I hope that you share my enthusiasm regarding this endeavor.

This week we are continuing utility work on Moore Street, which will include installing underground utility conduits.  During the week of November 10th, we will also be installing a new concrete manhole structure close to Reeves Hall.  This will result in an increase of activity on Moore Street as additional deliveries are being made to the site.

Please visit www.centenarycollege.edu/lacklandcenter to developing news and announcements.  In addition, feel free to call Todd K. Miller, Director of Physical Planning and Construction, at (908) 852-1400, ext. 2440 or myself at (908) 852-1400, ext. 2379, if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,

General Announcement: September 29, 2008.

Leaves beginning to fall signals the beginning of a new academic year in Hackettstown.  Centenary students and faculty have returned and campus life is in full swing. Feel free to take advantage of the many program offerings Centenary opens to the community, whether it is a faculty lecture or a theater production.

As with any large scale construction project, the campus is experiencing temporary parking and related facilities issues.  Rest assured that the College is working with great urgency to remediate these situations and are collaborating with Town officials to seek solutions which are in the best interests of our students and the neighbors whose borders we share.
