Mission Statement

The role of the Dean for Outcomes Assessment Research is to facilitate the analysis of learning that takes place in support of the College mission and dedication to a “quality liberal arts and career studies education”. The Dean for Learning Outcomes Assessment Research provides support for on-going assessment of student learning and the promotion of continuous program improvement for all matters that directly and indirectly affect student learning in all programs—graduate, undergraduate and general education in all delivery formats.

Role

The Dean for Outcomes Assessment Research promotes, facilitates, supports, educates and coordinates learning outcomes assessment efforts.  In addition, the Dean works closely with the Dean for Institutional Research who facilitates efforts directed toward evaluating overall institutional effectiveness of which leaning outcomes is major component.  The Dean is responsible for the collection and analysis of data from faculty and staff, and for utilizing existing institutional data to provide stakeholders regarding opportunities regarding program change and improvement. The Dean works in cooperation with faculty and staff to achieve these ends, and facilitates the work of the Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee (LOAC).

In addition, the Dean for Learning Outcomes Assessment Research provides coordination and facilitation of Centenary’s Prior Learning Assessment Program.  The Dean also is a resource to all members of the Centenary College community on matters pertaining to assessment of learning outcomes and the use of results to toward curricular and program improvement.

Centenary College's Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Program is designed to help the adult learner combine college courses and life and/or work experience in a nontraditional approach toward earning a college degree.  This program is supervised through the office of the Dean for Outcomes Assessment Research and administered by the Director of Prior Learning Assessment.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is the unit of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools that accredits degree-granting colleges and universities in the Middle States region, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and several locations internationally.

The Commission is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations, and resources. It examines each institution as a whole, rather than specific programs within institutions.

Centenary has been an accredited college with Middle States sine 1932.

Centenary's Accreditation Status

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is a nonprofit national association representing more than 3,000 individual members, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs of professional social work education. Founded in 1952, this partnership of educational and professional institutions, social welfare agencies, and private citizens is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for social work education in this country.
