Centenary College - President's Greeting
Established in 1867, Centenary College has grown into an innovative, coeducational liberal arts college with a strong career focus. The history and traditions we celebrate at Centenary form the very foundation of the College and provide a solid building block for successfully educating and preparing students to face tomorrow’s challenges.
As you consider Centenary College for your education, you should know Centenary is at a very exciting time in its own development. Completion of the David and Carol Lackland Center in 2010 created the centerpiece of the main Hackettstown campus. This state-of-the-art facility includes a new home for our Performing Arts and Communication programs, a wonderful new dining facility, and ample space for students and student groups to gather.
Further, the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center was renovated and expanded to better meet the athletic and fitness requirements of a premier collegiate environment and the needs of students like you.
There are many other reasons why Centenary’s popularity has made it one of New Jersey's fastest-growing private colleges.
Most importantly, you will find a diverse student body, a dedicated faculty and staff, and stimulating educational options when you come here. We offer 20 Bachelor’s degree programs with 23 distinct concentrations and three Associate’s degree programs, a variety of traditional, accelerated and online Master’s degree programs, and much more.
The College is also becoming recognized as a leader among independent colleges, in part because of its innovative approach to technology including our trend-setting wireless campus.
We also feature such distinctive opportunities as our riding-intensive Equine Studies major and the new Institute for Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Education, as well as co-curricular activities such as our Gates-Ferry lecture series, which in 2008-09 featured famed dance choreographer Mark Morris and in 2009-10 nationally renown poet Mark Doty.
Our reputation for academic and creative achievements, combined with the commitment to ensure every student succeeds, is further evidence why Centenary has a growing reputation for creating exceptional student experiences.
Add to that our unparalleled commitment to community service and our guiding philosophy of Student-Centered Learning, and you can see why Centenary can promise an educational experience designed to bring out your very best.
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara-Jayne Lewthwaite
President, Centenary College
