EOP - The Educational Opportunity Program

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a "leader and linchpin in the higher education system's effort to increase diversity."

Our Mission
The continued goal of the state-funded Educational Opportunity Program is to provide support services and financial assistance to qualified students who are selected to participate in the program. The potential of these first-generation college students is nurtured by a state program designed to strengthen skills and cultivate the awareness of the individual student's personal responsibility to fulfill his or her own academic goals. They are encouraged to be active in the college community and to assume civic leadership.

A Collaborative Effort
The EOP program provides academic, financial, and personal counseling to assist in the retention and graduation of first-generation students. The staff works in unison with other departments of the Academic Success Center. They also maintain close contact with faculty and staff to foster the person academic development of each EOP student.

Admission Requirements
In order to be considered for acceptance into the EOP Program at Centenary College, you must:

EOP Alliance Program
The EOPACC (Educational Opportunity Fund Alliance at Centenary College) is a united community of EOP Program students throughout the State of New Jersey who develop workshops, mentoring opportunities, and activities that facilitate the educational and leadership growth of its members.

The mission of the Alliance is to ensure that EOP students are among the next generation of civic, business and educational leaders. The goal of the program is to instill in its members a sense of social responsibility, improving the quality of life in their communities.

Book Club and Book Exchange Program
The Raymonde Maurice Reading Circle was established in 2003 to give all EOP students a forum to voice their thoughts and insights on ethnic American literature.

Students are able to reserve a copy of the selected book of the semester through the college's inter-library loan program. At the end of each semester, the program hosts a book club dinner where discussion is initiated through a series of prepared questions. This allows students the venue to practice effective communication skills as well as social group interaction.

The EOP Program also has a book exchange program. Students are encouraged to donate or lend text books in current use and in exchange borrow needed texts for a semester. This program is also supplemented by an alumni book scholarship fund.

BYOT (Bring Your Own Tray) Luncheon
EOP Program students and staff meet monthly for lunch to discuss topics of interest, upcoming events, curriculum activities, and to recognize student accomplishments. The EOP Program staff take pride in stressing to all students the value of team-work.

Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) - Gamma Beta Chapter
