Title  Associate General Secretary for Communications and
Description  The General Board of Global Ministries is seeking an Associate General Secretary for Communications and Development. The primary responsibility of the Associate
General Secretary for Communications and Development shall be to provide administrative and programmatic leadership for a team of professionals helping to connect
the church in mission, specifically targeting local United Methodist Churches. The Associate General Secretary will guide the organization\\\'s strategic messaging and
ensure overall continuity of brand consistency and image.
This leadership role includes the supervision of personnel, and major projects as assigned by the Deputy General Secretary of Communication and Development who this
position reports into. Some travel is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide administrative leadership through: supervision of assigned staff, including monitoring and evaluation; participation in and provision of leadership for staff
training and development; facilitation of teams, fiscal management of this sub-unit and delegation of authority as needed; interacting with human resources as needed;
as well as orientation of new staff

• Provide oversight and vision for the website; marketing and communication efforts for Global Ministries, which is inclusive of UMCOR; and print and digital media.

• Relating and collaborating with communications staff members of other general agencies and commissions to increase broad visibility of Global Ministries’ programs
and achievements

• Ensure global staff and representatives deliver and leverage communications to achieve maximum effectiveness, efficiency and consistency of message/positioning

• Integrate communication plans across organizations/regions to influence partners’ contributions to brand positioning and messaging

• Evaluate the effectiveness of projects and program services and make recommendations

• Manage directly or through subordinate supervisors and engage in hiring, disciplinary action, and performance management

• Consult regularly with the Deputy General Secretary of the program area for advice and affirmation and consult regularly with communications and development staff to
ensure that there is coordination among and between the program areas

Required 
Skills 
• Relevant Bachelor’s degree plus at least 7 years professional experience in the area of communications, development and management; or relevant Master’s degree plus
at least 5 years professional experience in the area of communications, development and management

• Solid understanding of the United Methodist Church structure

• Excellent communication skills, particularly when dealing with an international, multilingual audience

• Ability to build consensus among varying audiences, negotiate change, handle challenges calmly and professionally, and work under pressure
