Position Information

Title  Program Director
Description  PennPIRG is a consumer group that stands up to powerful interests whenever they threaten our health and safety, our financial security or our right to fully participate in
our democratic society. For decades, we’ve stood up for consumers, countering the influence of big banks, insurers, chemical manufacturers and other powerful special
interests. Using the time-tested tools of investigative research, media exposés, grassroots organizing, advocacy and litigation, PennPIRG stands up to powerful interests
and delivers concrete results.

Top Priorities

Some of the nation’s best-known companies — including GE, Google and Goldman Sachs — have avoided paying the taxes they owe, costing Pennsylvanians $4.4 billion
last year. We’re building support for a bill in front of Congress that will Close Corporate Tax Loopholes.
At a time when 1 in 3 kids are obese, and many of us are suffering from crushing debt and a weak economy, nearly $5.3 million Pennsylvanian tax dollars went to
subsidizing junk food ingredients in 2011. That’s why we’re calling on Congress to Put Junk Food Subsidies on a Diet.

Job Description
PennPIRG is seeking a Program Director to lead the fight for consumers here in Pennsylvania. The Program Director will continue to identify critical issues within our
program areas, develop short and long-term campaign plans to bring real results to Pennsylvanians, and build the citizen-power it takes to stand up to the powerful

Key Responsibilities

Program development: Identify concrete solutions for our priority program areas and develop a strategic plan to win.

Communications: Craft compelling messages for a wide variety of audiences, develop materials, editorials, news releases, website content and email alerts.

Media: Focus state, and at times national, media attention on our campaigns to create momentum, educate citizens and decision makers and build credibility. Build
relationships with key people in the media, like reporters, editors and publishers.

Form Coalitions: Form diverse coalitions, often made up of strange-bedfellows, to build wide-based public support to influence decision makers. Work with celebrities,
VIPs, other non-profits, and supporters wherever they may be.

Organize the Field: Organize resources to gain access and generate political pressure on decision-makers. Work with our field staff, internet team, members and
volunteers to mobilize activists ready to fight for Pennsylvania.

Fundraising: Build lasting relationships in the funder community and build resources for our work with foundations and major donors.

experience, including (but not limited to) work in political, policy, legal, journalistic or government settings.
