| Description | CPNJ is seeking a Teacher of Students with Disabilities with Highly Qualified Status in Mathematics for the Horizon High School. The desired candidate will evaluate the educational needs of each child and plan and execute individual programs as well as assessing the effectiveness of each child's plan. Key Responsibilities include: • Participating in conferences, IEP meetings, clinics and all trans-disciplinary meetings with administrators, staff and families to assess the needs, abilities, objectives and achievements of each student. • Developing specific, integrated goals for each child and maintaining educational records and submitting written reports evaluating each child's progress. • Preparing and implementing written lesson plans and administering formal and informal tests and assessing progress. • Integrating special educational programs with other therapeutic services, including aquatic therapy, hippotherapy, as well as speech, occupational and physical therapies. • Orienting, training, and directing teacher assistants, volunteers and student teachers. • Arranging and maintaining bulletin boards, preparing attendance reports and performing other related record keeping and classroom upkeep functions as required as well as participating in special activities as appropriate. • Informing Program Director of significant observations and concerns and maintaining contact with parents / guardians of each child. Making referrals to social worker and/or nurse as needed. • Keeping current of and adhering to safety and emergency procedures including universal precautions to prevent the spread of infectious disease. • Implementing appropriate behavior management techniques. • Keeping current on educational research, trends, and practices, and implementing them when appropriate. • Utilizing computer technology to support instructions and to managing classroom and administrative tasks. • Acting as a good role model by maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and conversation in front of students and visitors at all times. |
| Required Skills |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Detailed knowledge of the practices and principles of education of children with various disabilities including knowledge of child development. Ability to establish and maintain relationship with each child assessing abilities and limitations. Learning to use and operate adaptive equipment and the ability to perform strenuous physical activity. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and maintain confidentiality. Qualifications • B.A./B.S. Degree in Education • N.J. certification as Teacher of the Handicapped • Previous experience with developmentally disabled students preferred • Fingerprint examination and approval by State of New Jersey Department of Education |
