Position Information

Title  Communications Interns
Salary  $10 per hour or for cours
Description  The Greater New Jersey Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (GNJAC) is seeking skilled writers, photographers and videographers who have the ability to tell
compelling human interest stories to help communicate the ongoing and emerging needs of communities affected by Superstorm Sandy. The majority of the work will be
focused on the GNJAC’s Superstorm Sandy relief and recovery initiative: “A Future With Hope.”

Individuals will work closely with the Media Specialist of the GNJAC to develop story leads and create memorable multimedia pieces to be shared across the world. Stories
will be featured online at www.gnjumc.org, in a weekly e-newsletter, as well as pitched to United Methodist and secular media outlets across the world.

Required Skills: The successful candidates will have strong editorial news writing and interviewing skills, the ability to develop story ideas about a diverse population of
people, strong knowledge of using social media in a professional setting, ability to write for the web, and excellent time management, interpersonal and social skills.
Candidates should also possess strong technical skills in programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop.

*Knowledge of photography, particularly with DSLR cameras, video and video editing software and website design are preferred but not required. Access to personal
photography/videography equipment is encouraged but not required.

Hours/Compensation: Individuals are expected to work up to 10 hours/week for 15 weeks. Interns may take the internship for credit OR pay (not both). Paid interns will
receive $10/hour, not to exceed 10 hours per week. Both paid and for credit interns will receive a small travel stipend to off-set travel costs to and from story locations.
Travel to and from the Conference Office is not paid. Interns must have available transportation to story locations and be willing to travel at least one day/week, including
occasional weekends and overnight events. *Amount of travel will depend on the number of internship positions filled.

Location: Interns are expected to check in with the Media Specialist weekly, however, it is possible that many projects will be completed off-site. There will be occasional
in-office meetings, which the Interns are expected to attend. The GNJAC office is located in Ocean, NJ.
